i5 > i7

The dell i5 CPU is a real quad core and is higher clocked with turbo, the i7 is a 2 core CPU with hyperthreading.

The Dell inspiron 7k seems to have the upper hand in cpu, gpu, battery, and screen. If you're not that interested in gaming, the cpu and gpu means less, but then you're likely to get a better value from a 940m unit.

Edit: Though, to be fair, this does have 1-year accidental coverage, if that's something you need.

I'm thumbing this up because FINALLY manufacturers are listening to us!

This has everything that should be standard on a laptop:

- 1080p!
- SSD!
- atleast 8gb ram!
- matte display option!
- backlit keyboard!

We used to have to pull teeth to have a deal with all these basic features at once.

Thanks OP! I actually bought this laptop last week for $799, and I'm really impressed with it. The laptop is nice and thin, and made from brushed aluminum (the bottom is plastic). Nice and sturdy build. The color is listed as blue, but the one I received is more of a gun-metal color (which I prefer).

Called Amazon and spoke with a rep about the price drop, and they issued me a $30 Amazon credit.

Things I like about the laptop:

1) Nice and sturdy build
2) Cool gun-metal color
3) SSD drive (loads Windows 10 and all programs I installed super fast)
4) Additional drive bay for a second hard drive (which I plan to add later)
4) Dedicated GPU (perfect for PhotoShop and the games I like to play)
5) Minimal bloatware
6) Backlit keyboard
7) Matte display (truthfully, doesn't look as sharp as my previous laptop's gloss, ISP display, but no reflection in screen).

I'll take an Asus over Dell any day. Their customer support has been magnificent so far. With an international warranty I think it's still decent deal....

This is a dual core i7. It's going to give around the same performance as an i5, perhaps less, because many i5s are quad core. It's really an i7 in name only.

I guess the plus size is the battery lasts longer, and the fan is perhaps quieter than a real i7? Just make sure you know what you are getting.

That protection is for them. If you ever have the misfortune of dealing with Asus consumer support reps, you'll want to drive to non-communist China and wreck their offices.

Did I mention their support is worthless?

Any idea if it's possible to add a dvd drive in that bay?

Thanks!

ONE of the amazon reviews says this:

A 2.5" HDD will NOT, I repeat, will NOT fit in the empty sata drive slot, it is too thick. You will need to use an SSD for storage, which kind of is ridiculous for a GAMING laptop, where games nowadays take up nearly 50-60GB.

An internal dvd drive would be smaller than a HHD drive, would it not?

I'm trying to see how easy/if it's even possible to add a dvd drive to this model or if I should buy the ASUS F555LA-AB31 and add a SSD to that instead.
