Examples: Chicken by-product meal is considered an inferior source of protein for cats. Although cats may eat a certain amount of by-products "in the wild," the most nutritious commercial cat foods will show a named meat, such as "chicken" as the first ingredient, rather than "chicken by-product meal."

The major grocery store brands are all junk and filler. Eukaneuba and Science Diet are no better than 9lives or Friskies. Good luck finding any real meat in them. Feet, beaks, necks, fat, bones, feathers, corn, wheat, dyes and preservatives--YUM!

Look for foods by Wellness Core, Instinct, Felidae, Blue Buffallo, Taste of the Wild, Natural Balance, Before Grain (Merrick), Chicken Soup, Diamond Naturals, etc. Deals pop up on here once in a while that make some of these foods cheaper than grocery store brands.
