For a limited time, save $50 on the Amazon Echo with your Amazon.com Store Card or Amazon Prime Store Card. Here’s how:
1. Add the Amazon Echo to your cart.

2. Select your Amazon.com Store Card or Amazon Prime Store Card as your payment method at checkout.

3. Enter promo code ECHODEAL for $50 off the Amazon Echo in the "Gift Cards & Promotional Codes" box. You will then see "$50 off Echo" in your Order Summary. Limit 1 per customer.

Current price is $179.99, so $129.99 after discount.

they should pay me for allowing them to have their always-on microphone in my house

On the fence about this. Already have a bluetooth speaker in the master bath and I'm not sure how much more useful this would be?

Well the ignorant privacy paranoia didn't take long to come out on this post.

FYI: current price is listed as $179.99 w/ Free Shipping for Prime Members
So $129, I'd assume.

This really shines more in the kitchen then any room in your house. The music is only a small portion of what you can do with this, while cooking you can tell it to set timers, add items to your shopping list and ask basic conversion questions. Sure you could use Siri/Google Say for this, but the convenience of just having ask a question without having to dig out your phone with chicken covered hands is worth it to me.

We have ours in the kitchen as well and it's great. The timer feature is awesome. We also have it setup with Phillips Hue lights in that room so we tell her to turn the lights on or off. It also interfaces with a Belkin Wemo plug to switch devices on or off. I'm not sure it'd be helpful outside of the kitchen though.

Hmm tempting. I have always kicked myself for missing out of the $99 Echo deal when it was first released but I don't know if I have a need for it anymore. Amazon is doing a good job with development for it though.

yeah i was beating myself up wondering when they offered it for $99....but yes you're right....me too man i missed it...just went to a friends house and finally played with it...now i want it...its just cool that it's connected to the cloud and integrates with your calendar, so basically its a personal assistant..love that thought..i can just yell at it and say "remind me about this" or add dinner date or whatever.....and it will also play your spotify/pandora list from the cloud.....no phones attached...love that...

i'm crossing my fingers amazon offers it again for a $99 deal...

Ya I kick myself for missing this at $99 and hope that it drops down again for the holidays. I want one and it is sad I am thinking of opening up an Amazon credit card account just to save the $50 on this.

People should be more concerned about their smart phones. It's fairly common to hear people voice privacy concerns about miced devices such as Echo or Kinect, but never think twice about the copious amounts of data constantly being shared by their mobile device.

I'm not saying you're one of those people, but do you make similar comments in all the smart phone threads here?
