Thread Details

Hello all,
I'm flying from SFO and 2 of us are planning to go to cancun anytime between 12/18 to 1/18. Our budget is $1600 and we would love feedback on what our best option would be. We're interested in all inclusive resorts (hopefully either 4 or 5 nights stay) and I did my research on expedia and cheapcarribean but I just got so overwhelmed at all the options as this is my first carribean resort experience Smilie I would greatly appreciate any recommendations to get the most for my limited budget hug Thanks all in advance bounceSmilie

Vacationexpress.com has always been helpful in my open ended search. The deals page shows the type special offer each location has. We have just planned a trip for Dec 12-19 and booked an Airbnb for $70 a night. It's in a resort right on the beach and near all the great restaurants. I would have to eat $100-$200 a day to justify an all inclusive. Maybe other folks are overachievers. Good luck.

I fly to/from Cancun frequently and almost always end up using Volaris airlines, check their site and sign up as they constantly have short one day/week long promotions and their base fees are as cheap as it gets. They just had a deal today for 30% off international flights.

thank you for all the feedbacks! Does anyone know what other good sites to search for packages? I thought about booking a flight seperately then airbnb a place but seems like there wasn't much savings from other all inclusive options I've seen so far. Would love any additional pointers! TYI.

If you like to party, Cancun is a good place. But be aware there have been state department warnings about travel to Mexico for several years now. The drug wars in Mexico have spilled over to the resort areas. Personally I wouldn't stay on the mainland for that reason.

You could check on flights to Cozumel, they might be cheaper and it's a beautiful island with plenty of reefs to explore and two sets of Mayan ruins. Cozumel is less of a party town than the mainland areas are and it's just stunning. Plus the locals are very laid back and nice and the food in the restaurants is excellent and inexpensive.

It's a short ferry ride from Cozumel to the mainland, in case you want to do a day trip to Playa Del Carmen or Cancun. Or you could do a boat tour of the Sian Ka'an Biosphere Reserve, if you're into nature.

Great snorkeling too at Cozumel as well as at Isla Mujeres -- which is a small island right off of Cancun -- just a short ferry away.

dont worry about the drug wars. cancun is a huge cash cow for mexico. they keep it pretty safe for tourists. u just have to stay in the hotel area.

We used costco travel for cancun and ended up with a really nice deal on an all-inclusive. If you are a member there (or know someone who is) it's worth taking a look at.
