You can help for FREE with just a click: The Hunger Site [thehungersite.com] (be sure to click on the other tabs, too, and help feed rescued animals, preserve rain forest, extend literacy, fund mammograms and keep kids healthy).

If CVS was really smart, they'd put a basket of rocks with upc codes on them at the registers, priced 10 cents to 89 cents each, because morons like me would buy them as fillers just to get out of the store faster.

Alright so after reading 4 pages of replies I have made my assessment and I have realized that I am in the WRONG part of the website. It is a very weird section I have come to and posted my serious post. I don't know where else to post it other than lounge, but the lounge is filled with really WEIRD people.

I actually had to come in here looking for one of my own recipes. Gearing up for that season ... have to do an inventory and look for baking supply deals.

Random cat advice for a resp. infection:

FishMox capsules are sold on Ebay and also in specialty pet stores that deal in a lot of fish. I have never seen them at PetSmart, PetCo, PSP, etc............ I purchase a huge bottle to have on hand.

You can open up the capsule and pour 1/2 the contents on wet food, if the cat is eating. If the cat isn't eating then put 1/2 the capsule on some type of Nutra-Cal or sticky vitamin paste and put on the cats tongue. I would do that 3 times a day for the 1st the 3 days and then twice a day for the next 11 after that.

Vets now have a long lasting antibiotic shot if the cat is really sick that last 2 weeks.

An iv hydration bag might be necessary if the cat hasn't ate much, as the dehydration alone will make them weak.

Back when Cavie died I had another sick cat---about a 15 pounder---he couldn't even lift his head. I had an iv bag on hand and used that with the above formula and by the 3rd day he was lifting his head. I was sick with worry because I thought I was going to lose him too. Frown I pretty much nursed him around the clock the first few days.

Another good thing to do is take empty water bottle and fill them with hot water and wrap in towels and pack around the cat(s) to keep them warm. Make sure the hot bottle doesn't burn the cat though. You'd be shocked at how long they'll stay warm.

Another home remedy is to close off the bathroom and run the shower to steam up the room and that will help, temporarily, to open up the nasal passages.

I've used a humidifier and set-up some Priority boxes to make a tent, but you have to be careful because the steam can get too hot, so make sure you get at the level with the cat so you know how hot the steam is that they're breathing in.

A little more pet advice. I think there are online coupons for PetSmart's Banfield clinic for a free exam. If you can't find an online coupon, there are gift cards with coupons attached in the stores right now and I believe the coupon might be in there also. It could be a cheap vet visit to get much needed antibiotics and I believe they are open on the weekend. I'd definitely get a hydration bag or 2. They have come in so handy for me and can save a life. hug

Much good info here and your next post. Thanks! I saw all the fish a/b stuff and wondered if I could use it. I had some doxycycline, but it was long expired and I saw the warnings about kidney problems from using old doxy. Will try to get out tomorrow and check on this. We have a Petco in my usual shopping area (20 miles) and PetSmart in the next area (40 miles).
