Deal2go 5,119 277 November 14, 2015 at 02:14 PM
Bought a Sony laptop 2 years ago and haven't been able to use it for a year cos I forgot what password I selected to log in. Tried many times but they are wrong. I am not any tech pro. I appreciate any help or advice. Thanks

What version of Windows? And why did you steal a laptop?

All the info you need can be had here [howtogeek.com].

However you need to be cautious. While you may be able to change the logon password the personal files & folders on the hard drive may not be accessible. Of course this depends on the OS and whether or not the files were originally encrypted.

Thanks. I have so many different passwords for my all the online banking and credit cards and utility account and etc cos I try not to keep the same for all and this is why I screwed up here. Brand new just shipped, next day i was registering and chose a password and than forgot it when i tried to use the laptop months later.
S*cked. I might have to ask windows customers service if they have one for help and I have my purchase receipt if they have doubt. It was a slickdeals found deal and many bought it the time

my windows is 7

If it's been a year I'd be tempted to just re-install but otherwise take a look at this

learn to take a joke. here is a how too, you'll need to make a bootdisk, similar to a Win XP lost password.

OK - It's important to know what version of Windows you have to answer your questions, and whether you used a Microsoft account or a local account. If it's Windows 8 or 8.1 and you used a Microsoft account, you can use another computer to recover the account using these steps: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-u...forgot-faq

If you have used a local account and are using Windows 8 or 8.1, you can blank out the password using Offline Windows NT Password Recovery Tool. You will have to download the tool and boot from it. One approach is to create a Hirens Boot CD or USB, instructions here: https://www.raymond.cc/blog/how-t...sh-memory/ You can also just download the password recovery tool and create a cd http://pogostick.net/~pnh/ntpasswd/bootdisk.html

Good luck!

If you used the PC very much you will probably not be happy if you do not have access to your files and folders but it sounds like you didn't use it much before you lost the ability to log on.

Your best bet in this case (I think) is to create a new user and start from scratch.

The admin account on this new PC probably does not have a password associated with it yet.

I would recommend that if you choose this option that you DO NOT use your familiar logon name, choose a new one and DO NOT delete the account that you lost/forgot the password for. It won't occupy a lot of space and if you happen to remember the password in the future---well you get it---.

Forgot or lost Windows password? reset Windows 7 password with Password Unlocker Bundle, one of whose functions is to recover windows password for Windows NT 4.0, Windows 2000, Windows XP, Windows 2003 Server, Windows Vista, Windows 7. ect. This password recovery Bundle is based on friendly GUI, even a computer novice can control the whole process freely. Besides, password unlocker bundle saves a lot trouble. It helps to create a windows password reset CD, with which, you can remove the admin password even you have logged out the computer, yet no reinstalling, no data loss!
