I've got 2 kids who are obsessed with Minecraft. We have a tablet and they play on there. Their cousin has an xbox one and now they are asking for it from Santa.

They only want it to play Minecraft. I'm not willing to shell out the $$$ just for Minecraft.

I'm looking for the least expensive option. What would you suggest? Xbox 360? Playstation? Used/Refurbs?

either of x360 or ps3 should work assuming Minecraft is on both of those consoles.

360 is probably the cheapest option but with the ps3 you wouldn't have to pay for playing online.

Amazon Fire Stick, $25. Fire Game Controller, $40. Done. http://www.aftvnews.com/how-to-tr...-tv-stick/

Only limitation would be 1 player at a time. If you want split screen action, look for a used PS3. An Xbox 360 would work as well, but you would need to pay for gold for multiplayer access. Half the fun of MC is playing with others, and I hate how Microsoft (and Sony now) capitalizes on that.

either ps3 or xbox one. They won't be able to play with their cousin unless you get them the xbox one though just a thought to keep in mind. Which would defeat the purpose. xbox ones will be $299.99 on Black Friday.

Biggest mistake of my life buying minecraft for the xbox one. Now its a daily struggle to get the tv for myself. I have to put up with temper tantrums every other day. If i were you I would stick to tablet unless you have a spare tv just for their use.

Best bet imo would be two pre-owned PS3 systems(160 GB PS3 slims are gonna be $99 apiece at Gamestop next week as part of their pre BF sale) and a copy of Minecraft for Vita that's the digital voucher version.

Why? Because if you buy a copy of Minecraft on the Vita via that code voucher version, you also get the digital version of it for the PS3 FREE. Plus they can game share the PS3 version on both PS3 systems(download it to both systems) just by having whatever account redeems the digital code on BOTH systems.

If you had asked this several months ago, you could've bought the Vita digital code version from Target for as low as $5.98(DPCI # 207-20-0962). That's how I got my PS3 version, since I don't even own a Vita.

There are likely SOME Targets with it still in stock. But at this point they'd probably be out of the system and picking them up would be YMMV.

He lives near me. A couple years ago, he bought five copies of a game on clearance at target closest to me. Bragged about it here then soon found out the trade value wasn't worth a 'flip'. When I called him on it for being a scumbag for buying out the stock, he PM'ed me and told me he would now purposely return them to a target far away from me so I can't get a copy for myself.
Whine more, please.

If you are still looking into this here is my suggestion (Being that I have experience with 5 kids, i've been in your shoes).
1. Consider all options of each console,
PS3: used/refurb price is good (possibly consider pawnshops), includes other streaming apps such as Netflix and Hulu wich can be utilized when not gaming, online play is usually free. Allows 2 player split screen action for minecraft
XBOX 360: same as PS3 for the most part with the exception of online play, you must purchase an XBOX Live Gold account at around $50 a year for each child.
PS4 & XBOX One: Cost is steep for just one game, but these consoles doe more than just play games. I have my PS4 for gaming in my room (by the way I am 36yrs old) and my XBOX One in the family room as the center of my entertainment system. I have my cable running through my box that allows for voice command to control TV channels, camera to Skype with friends and family on my television. Although I am diehard Playstation my children love this console especially for the interactive dance games and looking forward to our new family favorite of Rock Band 4. Both consoles have Netflix and other streaming Apps. I have found the Xbox charges for a lot of there services (as Microsoft usually does) and Playstation has them free as long as you have playstation plus (service at $50 a year), one difference is that with Playstation plus only one profile needs the app and all profiles on console can utilize most of the services.

Overall: I just suggest you think about what the future of the investment. Is it short term quick solution for Minecraft, or will your kids possibly want another game in the future. History shows within the next 3-5 years PS3 and Xbox 360 will begin to slowly phase out and the New systems offer much more than just games. I personally have multiples of all systems with the exception of the PS Vita and Wii U (coming soon) for various reasons. They have benefited my family in a way as to help me and my wife relate to our children in this technological age.
These are just my opinions and thoughts. Hope it helps and Good Luck!

Sure you do. Unless you want to raise a fcuking brat with a false sense of entitlement. Obviously you have no kids, or you are what I just described. LMAO

If I had a dollar for every time I said to the kids: "You're right, I am mean" or "I'm the worst father ever!"...
