Not sure how you can have a game that looks like a slide show in some areas and give a game 10/10.

Then just sit here and say but but.. its not the devs fault. The publisher makes them rush games out and not optimize the game. What difference does it make? Maybe if people stop pre ordering and buying buggy games they would stop doing this shit.

I usually don't defend them. This is one of the reasons I am not as crazy about the Bethesda games as most people.

The bugs within Skyrim, FO3 and New Vegas are a crime against nature. None of the few play sessions I had ever actually ended with me saving and calmly exiting. They end with a crash to desktop and me deciding not to waste my time starting it up again.

My favorite excuse is "the bugs and glitches are half the fun!" It's like they don't even realize that means the underlying game isn't that great....

Anyway, it's for the same reason why people defend stupid things said by politicians, celebrities, etc. Brand allegiance is part of your personal identity. So when someone insults a game or company that you hold dear, you feel like they've insulted you directly.

Also, it seems like video game critics are all paid off anymore. The day before release everyone is giving it a 9/10 or 10/10. Then a few days after release you find out everything is buggy as shit.

I just don't trust the video game industry anymore. Everything is hyped to hell, reviews are paid off and everything is buggy. The only quality games worthy of praise are Nintendo games and Indy games.

AAA games are just shit anymore.

I don't really mind the skyrim bugs so much because you can just fix them with some codes/mods - other stuff, like online connectivity/server stuff is pretty hard to forgive

To be honest some glitches were fun(for me anyway).

Case in point: Swingset and/or door launching glitches in GTA IV and/or GTA V

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lDCXlVSVTtA

But the ones where the game freezes constantly, the frame rate drops to near nil and/or any of the other various screw ups you can have happen are NOT fun to me.

From my own experiences, he uses and abuses the sites he is a member of. He cares about no one but himself. If there's a deal ANYWHERE, he is the person to buy 100x of whatever it is to resell for profit, and usually get the deal pulled or canceled.

He lives near me. A couple years ago, he bought five copies of a game on clearance at target closest to me. Bragged about it here then soon found out the trade value wasn't worth a 'flip'. When I called him on it for being a scumbag for buying out the stock, he PM'ed me and told me he would now purposely return them to a target far away from me so I can't get a copy for myself.
Whine more, please.

I don't think journalists are being paid off. That's basically the ultimate insult to a journalist so I'm not going to toss that out there without evidence.

I think it's more just natural precedent. We've seen SO many "AAA" games that are flat broken upon release (and sometimes still broken for weeks/months) and reliant on patches/fixes that we've started to 1) accept it as normal and 2) judge the game based on the possibility of what it could be (via patching) and not what it is.

That's where the industry has gone and will continue to go. Maybe you and I are just getting to old for this ****. It's not like there's a shortage of great games to play from pre-1985-2015. I don't need to buy into hype and preorder -- though I have preordered a few games thanks to the SD on them coughDellcough. I also don't blame marketers for driving hype -- that's literally their job. I do blame consumers for buying into it repeatedly and then complaining over and over again, however.

Also, plenty of indie games are bad and Nintendo just released two stinkers today with the animal crossing board game and Mario Wii U tennis. In all fairness to them, though, I think the tennis game was supposed to be 2016 but was bumped up and the AC game was drawn up and put together in about three months to put some games alongside Xenoblade for the holiday season since StarFox and Zelda got delayed.

i don't think journalists are paid off but i do think if they give a bad review or are overly critical, they don't get early/exclusive access. that and journalists probably only put a handful of hours into the game. i doubt most are the true pc master race anyways.

Nah, there's still some good ones, you're just being cynical. As for the hype, it's all relative. Same goes for the film and TV. There are portions of each forms of media that people enjoy, even if the overall product is not quite as polished. I can enjoy the plot of a movie, even if the acting leaves a lot to be desired. A TV show can still be entertaining, even if it's obvious that it's hamstrung by a small budget. A video game can still be awesome to play through, even if the writing is pretty generic, etc.

Exactly. Once I learned to remove the Star Trek name from the title of it, I was able to enjoy those J.J. Abrams "reboots" with the ST name attached to them as just action movies in space.

But if I tried watching them as an actual ST flick I would've been disappointed.

I haven't hit anything game breaking yet in FO4... Some oddities, for sure... NV though (I think) I was pissed when I hit that bug with BoS where you could no longer finish their quest line.
