It has been 10 years since Microsoft's 2nd gaming console, the Xbox 360, had a year long jump-start against the competition's PS3 and Wii. This was a $1 billion+ decision as early SKU's were plagued by the "Red Ring of Death" (a general console failure that required repairs) - multiple console redesigns has eliminated the RRoD. Halfway through, the Kinect released (motion-control peripheral), in an attempt to steal some of Wii's 100+ million casual audience. As per VGChartz [vgchartz.com], the Xbox 360 has sold 85.06 million (the reigning PS2 has sold 157.68 million).

o Best Xbox 360 exclusive?

o Kinect?

o Xbox 360 memories and its legacy?

I got a PS3 first since the RRoD was so widespread. I'm still playing on the Xbox 360, waiting on a few system sellers for next-gen. I don't think 360 had any masterpiece exclusives, such as The Last of Us, it was mainly a multiplatform machine with great UI (unlike the PS3's firmware updates and slow PSN store downloads that would kill your day). Halo played it way too safe on the 360 so I guess the best exclusive would be Alan Wake, but time has not been kind to it. The Kinect sucked-up AAA resources into supporting the gimmick. But since the 7th console generation became the longest console generation, the Xbox 360 did become my favorite console since a smorgasbord of 3rd party games were optimized for the 360.

I think the Kinect is still the fastest selling gadget to reach 10 Mil, or something like that...I remember it hitting that title. It was a waste for me, did get some fun out of (dance central!), but in the end it did spawn Kinect 2.0 which I use every single day, so I would never call it a failure.

I'd have to say Gears was the franchise of the generation. Both Halo and Forza are technically OG Xbox franchises...but Halo 3 moved consoles, everyone played that game foooooooreeevvvveeeer.

COD4, IMO, is still the epitome of gaming though. It was the first game I had, I got my console as a wedding present to myself (jan 08) and then I was laid off in Aug of 08 and it got it's fair share of playtime. I got a decent crew in those 3 months of sick kids or dudes that worked nights, those were some good times, haha.

I didn't think the Xbox 360 Kinect video chat supported Skype. Or are you referring to the Xbox One?

Same as SMB 1 "selling" 40 million copies. It was included with the console. The 3rd xBox my kid got was one of the black slim ones and included kinect.

For me gears was the best franchise and unique in that no other game has ever offered the same type of hardcore, fast paced third person shooter gameplay that worked as well.

Then you clearly never played Damnation. Gears of War stole that type of gameplay from Damnation - http://www.ign.com/games/damnatio...0-14239398

Yes, Gears of War is probably the second most influential 7th-gen game (first being CoD4). I still remember when CliffyB coined "stop-and-pop" since gamers weren't used to sticky cover before then. Ironically, Gears probably has the worst sticky cover controls (running is mapped to the cover button, "wall-bouncing" abuse, and unable to mantle an obstacle without sticking to it first). I'm surprised more shooters haven't copied the active reload mechanic though.

You're right I never played it but is that release date correct? 2009 would be a few years after gears was already out.
