Portable charger for car camping

dst1 1,216 November 24, 2015 at 09:06 AM More Goal Zero Deals
I've trying to find a portable charger/generator for car camping. I was looking at the following:

http://www.goalzero.com/p/164/Goa...-Generator

and I almost pulled the trigger during the REI sale. But looking at the tech specs it can handle only 80W sustained, and my laptop pulls 90W sustained.

Does anyone know of a viable alternative in this price range and capacity that can handle a larger wattage?

Since you said car camping and not necessarily sustainability for duration via solar (which is what Goal Zero's market is in,) have you considered a jump starter with AC inverter? It's a multi-function tool which will charge your laptop and then some: http://smile.amazon.com/Schumache...y+inverter

Yes, I have considered those types of devices and I might get one as a last resort. The problem I have with them is that they are much bigger, heavier, and take much longer to charge than a dedicated device like the Goal Zero. There is also the fact that it comes with a lot of doodads I don't need.

Thanks for your reply.

No worries, didn't know your parameters. My only other recommendation is, if you're close to Utah, Goal Zero does a warehouse sale at least once a quarter and usually once a month where they sell off all their in-house refurbed stuff - usually at a much lower cost. So you could get a Yeti 400 for at or below the cost of the Yeti 150 you listed.

Do you have any details on these warehouse sales, like a link? I wasn't planning on going up to Utah this next summer (I go every couple of years) but if I can kill two birds with one stone...

They'll post it on their FB site as well as send out an email if you're signed up for the newsletter. But here's a link to one of them to see what details they give you. Sometimes too they'll post the current stock and price list on their FB page a week or two before they have the sale. http://us2.forward-to-friend.com/...d4207b45db
