Microsoft Office

So I just bought a new laptop and desktop from best buy and I'm trying to decipher the Microsoft office plans.

The 365 doesn't seem like a good deal to me because it looks like you have to pay every year and you lose your access if you cancel your subscription but with 2 devices we need more than just the Office Home downloads for 1 pc that I'm seeing. Am I missing something with the 365? or is there a product I'm just not seeing? or should I get 2 office for 1 downloads?

FWIW, we are still using Microsoft 2003 on our pc that is running XP so we aren't the types to run out an upgrade things too often

Why not Libre office? Unless there's just something about Office 365 that you just gotta pay a subscription model for, the cheapest solution is Libre office at price=zero. If you're coming from Office 2003 then the transition between 2003 and Libre is alot easier then 2003 to 365.

I switched after the introduction of the 'ribbon' and never looked back and I have access to office for free.

I have Office 365 Personal, covers 1 PC, 1 Tablet, 1 Phone. Kind of a ripoff tbh, Microsoft lost their competitive edge with Office. Sure it looks prettier, but that's about it. But you do get 1TB of storage with 365 and 60 Skype world minutes which is what you're basically paying for.

OneNote is free and a nice app though.

Yeah if you're just doing basic stuff, Libre Office [libreoffice.org] or Open Office [openoffice.org] are both free & fully Office compatible
