Wanted to start a conversation comparing the two most reviewed headphones on Amazon, Audio Technica M50X vs Beats Studio 2.0 and help me with a situation that I am facing.

Both these were on sale this Black Friday and I ended up grabbing the M50X based on the high ratings at Amazon. I got the Limited Edition in Dark Green for $119 from Amazon Lightning Deal. I received it today and after listening to music for an hour I have to say that I feel a bit let down. For those who know and compared this with the Beats Studio 2.0, I need your thoughts since that would be my next purchase if and when I return the M50X. The reason I bring in Beats to this conversation was because I was firmly set on getting a Beats Studio 2.0 this Black Friday and at $160 price point in most stores I thought that I can atleast feel better that I paid the right price for those cans since most complaints about Beats was about it being overpriced.

My disappointment is mostly in the bass at high volumes from the M50X. It is not as crisp and does not seem to deliver the punch that Beats does. Now my only comparison comes from listening to Beats at Best Buy with the typical demo soundtracks they have in stores. However they were enough to convince me to spend $160 to get them until I heard and read about the M50X and its stellar reviews in Amazon and other sites.

Can someone help me decide if I should keep the M50X or return it for a Beats Studio 2.0? I am no audiophile so it would help if some experts can pitch in with their thoughts.

Check out Head-fi.org and do a search for the cans you listed. This debate has gone on long and hard on that dedicated site - no sense reinventing the wheel here. I'm all for the 50s personally, but it really depends on what type of listener you are, what gear you are playing through, what music you listen to, and what quality of music (MP3/FLAC).
Also checkout theheadphonelist.com, created by a dedicated Head-fi guy.
Happy listening!

Both are good but I like Audio Technica M50X. never tried Beats Studio 2.0 though. I found Audio Technica are great in sound quality, the bass is good and comfortable as well. you can go with review sites. You can also check out the reviews on some best headphones with good bass [soundoutmedia.com] here.
