Among the flotsam and jetsam of Chinese cheapies in cardboard displays that comprise the Home Depot holiday deal section, I found this item. They've had this set before, and it is a terrific value. Good for a professional or home owner. Buying the six tools in this set would run in the $90-100 range. A solid if not superhot deal.

The six tools in the set:

The only tool I really don't have and would like is the power voltage detector. I do have a cheapie from Harbor Freight, but would like a better one.

Great tools at a good price. These will last a long time. I use all of these except the voltage detector at work and they are going strong after four years.

This is the problem with sets like this. Most homeowners who would use these tools probably have at least three or four of the items already.

Made in the USA... right in the product description on the HD product listing.

OP, thank you. I'm sick of being at the mercy of my local lazy overpriced electricians for trivial stuff. Going to the library tomorrow to find a good DIY book on the subject.

For a noob DIY electrician, like myself, this [amazon.com]tool is a must. Works very well.

Never.

Expensive, perhaps, but worth every cent! Heirloom quality.

This is a good deal for quality tools -- I'm glad it's getting some TU's. I don't need it personally as I already have a bunch of good tools.

Keep in mind this is equivalent to about 1/2 hour of electrician time -- that's not to say that you should work on wiring without adequate knowledge and safety training. But if you ARE going to work on wiring -- get good tools, not HF stuff. This set really covers all the basics and with good quality tools.

I already have all tools in this set (purchased individually over time as I needed them), but this set is well worth the price and all the tools are fantastic. I really wish I could justify buying a 2nd set...
