Samsung Galaxy S Offer: Offer ends 12/03/15. While supplies last. Valid online only at www.cricketwireless.com. Must activate on qualifying plan ($40/month minimum). Customers get instant discount at the point of sale, taxes additional. First month service charge and other associated fees due at sale. Available as an upgrade. Restocking fee: up to $25. Other charges and restrictions apply.

Steps to install root, install tether, disable OTA updates. Use at your own risk.

1. Root your phone by downloading this file to your phone: http://forum.xda-developers.com/a...1431610998
Once downloaded click Download data to get the new build updates. Run the root app. It will prompt you to change system settings to allow unknown files. Follow the prompts. SU will be installed. If root is successful you will be prompted to reboot.
2. To stop OTA updates download Debloater 3.9 to your Windows computer.
http://rootjunkysdl.com/?device=G...=DeBloater

Make sure you have the Samsung USB drivers installed. If you don't already have them you can get them at Samsung's web site.

Install Debloater. Set your S6 to USB debugging mode. To enable this option go to Settings > System > About Device: Click on Build about 6 times. You will get a message that Developer mode is enabled. Go to Settings > System > Developer Options: Check USB debugging.

3. Connect phone to computer via usb. In Debloater click Read Device packages. Scroll down to the SyncmlDM.apk file. Check it. Click Apply. Reboot your phone and OTA should stop.

4. To enable free WiFi Tether download this App: https://sites.google.com/site/wifitetherrouter/

Use this configuration Samsung Galaxy S6:

Interface wlan0
Method 3 - HostApd
Encryption wpa2-psk
Channel 1
Drivers nl80211
"HostApd Patch" <- UNCHECKED
"No Firmware Reload" <- UNCHECKED

? After Rooting, Don't install "My Knox" or Knox-based apps.

This causes a Reboot Loop which can only be fixed by reflashing the entire stock ROM again.

Holy crap that's an amazing deal, personally not a big fan of the S6, but for $250 that's a steal, and it combines with their $100 credit for porting it looks like too. If I wasn't stuck on T-mobile I'd be all over this.

Last time it was really bad.. I think they only had about 20-30 at that price and hence only a few lucky guys got them Smilie

Wow, I am going to be all over this.

Is there any decent workarounds to "port" a number without actually porting my T-mobile number? Does a Google Voice number work?

Can I buy the girlfriend one of these without porting a number or having her account info? I'm trying to get her a present for Christmas.

Is it locked to Cricket, per se, or just AT&T? i.e could it be used ONLY on Cricket, or could it ALSO be used (while still locked) on an AT&T Post Paid or Next plan, or even on Straight Talk using an AT&T compatible sim? I'm not sure of the answer to this question, but since AT&T locked phones work on both Cricket and Straight Talk (w/AT&T compatible sim), I would think it would work the other direction - but again, I don't know. Maybe someone here does.
