Need help with monthly phone plan

krishna11 8 10 November 30, 2015 at 09:22 AM
Hi everyone,

I am new to USA and doing my Masters here. I stay at rochester, NY

I need some advice on getting a new phone connection. my only concern is cost factor for plan. I use very less data as most of the time i access wi-fi. I also make few calls 200 minutes at maximum per month may be

I am currently on AT&T family plan and it costs me around 42$ pm. One of my friends suggested taking Rebublic wireless as it costs around 10$ per month for basic plan but I have to pay 129$ initially to get MOTO- E which on Black Friday was 10$.

But I see RingPlus all the time here. Should I pay ringplus also initially to get a phone. Is it true that I get free minutes with ring-plus ?

I am open to suggestions and please suggest me some cheap Telecom operators and if possible comparison. If nothing works out I will go with Republic wireless. Are there any other operators apart from these 2.

Update-- avg data usage -- 200 MB and minutes -- 200 minutes
Thank u so much for the reply.

Buy a moto e right now at bestbuy for 39.99 and activate it on ringplus free service.
To activate, you need a credit or debit card and US address on file for it.
Once you get home, it is very important to NOT open the packaging box.
Go to Ringplus website, create an account using your email address and select Leonard 2 plan. Your cc will be charged $20 for a topup. You will never be charge again unless you use up all your topup.
Leonard 2 features 1500 mins/1500 text messages y 1500mb of data. It does NOT include multimedia text messages(sending pictures or videos via text) and if you do happen to need to send one, it will cost you 3cents per multimedia text msg which will be deducted off your topup. Again, you will not be charged a $20topup unless you use up ALL your topup. And you will not be charged a monthly fee since this plan is free.

Once you select your plan, you input your device MEID and UICC found on the bottom of your retail box. Again, at this time, keep the phone in the retail package. Do not open it.

Once you get confirmation that your account and line has been registered and activated, unbox your phone and power it on for the first time. Follow on screen directions and youre done.

Follow these steps to the letter and you will get a successful installation. If you by any means happen to power on your device BEFORE activating it on ringplus, then your phone will not work.

Only Sprint Prepaid Moto E will work and its on clearance at $39.99. Once youve done all steps, report back. Offer for free Leonardo 2 plan ends TONIGHT at midnight. So, you must do this today, right now

Red Pocket has $160 annual prepaid plan if you still want to stay in AT&T network and no new phone needed. Or Ringplus has "free" plan but you will need a Sprint phone.

Good luck! Just keep in mind that the Moto E has no flash on the camera, otherwise it's good to go~

Hi Christine,
Hi Christine,
your plan is really saving me much needed bucks every month.

Everything is fine except that I suggested one of my friends to proceed with it and he has an issue. He went with 20$ plan 4 days back exactly because he said he is fine with it.

he is able to use data, sms and make calls through wifi using CSIPSimple but could not make calls through sprint network.. When ever I call him his number is unreachable.

I dont see any customer care number and I dont know how to reach out to ringplus in this regard.

I am most of the time busy with my Courses and they demand a lot of time and so may be i could not contribute much to the community.

Oh I see.
If you're using an android phone, go to settings and Phone Updates. Then, you will have many options. Some are PRL and PROFILE. Profile is for Voice. PRL is for DATA.You should update both.

Also, I see that your friend MAY have been using MMS(video/picture) instead of SMS. Ringplus charges for MMS but SMS is limited to which plan you use. That may be your issue for low balance error.

With regards to calling, you are using a third party app to make calls. Personally, I've never heard of Csipsimple. But then again, I'm new at this whole updated android stuff. So, I'd suggest using your phone's own software to make calls. You cannot fault ringplus or the phone when you're not using its native software to make calls over their network.

csipsimple is not a faulty way of making calls. It actually uses wifi and provides calling facility if sprint network is not available in certain places .

Use the native software for calling people. if THAT does not work, then it's ringplus having problems. If you can make calls, then it's csipsimple having issues, not ringplus.
