unable to rep posters

I keep receiving errors when repping posters...says I do not have permission. Is it something I am doing wrong?

I believe new/newer/newish posters can't throw rep around willy-nilly... IIRC, I had the same issue back when I started out.

Don't quote me on this, though. If I'm wrong, someone should be along to correct me. Was just wanting to get you some/any communication, sooner rather than later. Smilie

New members can rep but they don't increase the poster's count. It gives the repper the opportunity to leave a nice comment but does help prevent shillers or spammers from just coming in and repping things up that might be spam.

That said, we don't allow posts over 30 days old receive reps, and some forums and threads (chat) even in deal forums cannot receive reps.

Ah... did not realize that!

That's precisely the reasoning I thought y'all relied on (thought I remembered seeing it posted somewhere before).

I totally get it, but any discussion on ever changing the policy?

For example, I've done searches before... not for deals, but for information... and come across incredibly eloquent, helpful, in-depth (step-by-step) answers about xyz technology or program, that I wanted to give rep in order to say 'Thank you'. Smilie

Not an actual example I'm thinking of, but 'for instance' an explanation of how Amazon S&S or Amazon Pantry works.

Sometimes, the page on a company's website is misleading (i.e. makes the deal or program sound much rosier than it actually is), so hearing 'the straight dope' directly from another SDer is often invaluable.

You are more than welcome... encouraged even, to open the discussion with the suggestion. You can start a new thread if you'd like. Smilie Then other members can add comments either pro or con.

Hi, I see the answer about being new but I can't rep anyone and I have been using SD for over a year, bought way too much stuff, and still get the message that I do not have permission. Can the moderator look into this on my account? Thanks!

I don't see anything wrong with your account on this end.
Are you trying to rep posts over 30 days old or in chat threads? Those aren't reppable.

No, I just tried to give rep for the first item on the FP. Still get the same message "you do not have permission to access this page..."

Can you link to the post you were trying to rep? You can PM me if you'd like.
