Target Red Card, worth it?

Anyone have any feedback on the Target Red Card?

which do you prefer their debit card or their credit card? I heard the debit card takes a while to take the money from your checking account and its linked directly to your checking account which makes me kind of nervous having anything debiting directly from my checking account because ive had fraud charges on my credit cards before and its harder to dispute fraud charges from your checking account than it is from a credit card.

Do you think its worth signing up for the 5% discount? most credit cards only give you 1%-3% cash back.

Only during the Holidays season, Target prices generally suck in the other parts of the year. If they ever get rid of registry discounts on apple/console it will be worthless, looks like it will happen eventually with all the abuse.

Red Card doesn't have extended warranty and other protections as the leading CC companies either.

Stick with the debit card. I have the credit card and the (3rd world) customer service is beyond horrendous.

As the username says ...
Red Card gives you an instant 5% discount. What other credit card will give you that? If you shop at Target a lot (for groceries, little odds and ends) it's well worth it. For major purchases, maybe not.

I don't have any experience with the credit card, but do love the debit card. 5% discount and free shipping from the website, totally worth the hassle of another card. Yes, the debit from your account is annoyingly slow. I ordered some things Monday, they shipped that day, still haven't cleared my account.

I've got the credit card (that is ONLY good at Target, not the Visa/MC card of the past) and I have no complaints. I set it up to autopay the balance. Upon using the card you get an immediate 5% discount on your total. We prefer Target for household stuff over having to go into Walmart...

I don't use debit cards...for various reasons.

I do have the Target RedCard CC, and love it. I find that Target has very competitive pricing for the items I buy (compared to WalMart and other stores near me). Worth it for me. There's no fee associated with the card, 5% off on every purchase, free shipping (no minimum) at

I will agree that their 'customer service' is pretty awful, but unfortunately, similar to other store cards, in my experience.

I dont sign up for a credit card unless I can manage to get $500 out of it... if you can get $500 worth of 5% back at target, its a good idea. Id rather get something like the Chase Sapphire thats giving 50,000 points worth $500 in cash, more in travel, or you can sell your points for $750+.

If you shop often at Target, it is well worth it to have some type of redcard. 5% and free shipping.
I've had their debit card for years with no problems.. It has the chip now too.
I also had the Amex redcard but closed it when they stopped allowing mfg spending.

Depends how often you shop there and how much you spend. My Sallie Mae gives me 5% CB at the target I go to (assuming I haven't gone over $250 in groceries/walmart for the month). I usually will use that. My wife has one as well so if I'm over $250 spent she will use hers.

I love the Target red card. I have the CC (refuse to have anything directly linked to my checking account). I don't shop a ton at Target, but between the 5% off and the free shipping, it's worth it to me to have this free card in my wallet.

If you like to buy lot of stuff online (which would be for most SD users), then I say go for it.

1 more thing I'd point out that no one in this thread has mentioned - you can get close to 10% off if you buy a target gift card and then use it online along with your redcard. Because the way checkout is set up, you can obtain 5% redcard discount WHILE AT THE SAME TIME PAYING THE ENTIRE AMOUNT WITH A TARGET GIFT CARD.

I'm looking for Discounted DELL PROMOTIONAL GIFT CARDS. Please PM me.
I find that it extremely useful when stacking coupons with it. You can use it online, through the app or in the store. I stacked it with a recent deal on a PS4/tv deal for another $20 off. It definitely adds up.
