Supposedly Zennioptical online for eyeglasses offers decent prices for prescription glasses and you can pick frames and submit your prescription online. I have never ordered from them personally though since the transition lenses I get end up costing just a little less than when I go through my VSP insurance at my eye doctor, so I opt to go with my local doctor. However, they seem to be very good for other types of lenses though your experience may vary depending on your situation.

Zennioptical is good for me. I've bought about ten for my family. The quality isn't that good, but I have five I can switch between depending on my mood or style or color family. I probably paid $250 total or so for those.

After a couple of $400 designer frames were chewed up by the dog I went this route. Of course they must not be nearly as tasty since she hasn't chewed any of the cheap ones... An aristocrat I guess..

The designer frames market has to be one of the biggest scams out there. They are pieces of metal and you can not tell me that putting a designer's name on them makes them worth hundreds of dollars more than the regular ones. Those things probably cost less than 10 dollars to make. Just get one that looks good and is sturdy as you noted.
