Thread Details

I have a Asus rt-n66u. I have had it two or three years. Never an issue, I don't know what changed in last month. I have two smart tvs, printer, laptop, PS3 and ps4 on my internet. My PS4 keeps dropping signal everyday, I have hundreds and hundreds of hours on it uninterrupted til this month. Now it will disconnect and will not reconnect until I restart router and ps4 or combination of two.

But every other device still functions fine. I don't get it, my PS3 has never lost a connection, ps4 til this month didn't either. But what's weird is, sometimes it last awhile and sometimes doesn't. I played 5 hours then it booted me, took 20 mins to get it up and then took few tries to get working again, or sometimes drops me instantly. But every other device fully works while ps4 kicks off and won't connect to Internet.

I'm a month outside warranty policy router works fine but something isn't working between PS4 and router I think the ps4 is shot or something. Any ideas?

also.. att gave me a microcell tower that plugs into router about a month ago. I have 1 bar at home and constantly drops to searching. I know it uses my internet but I've never had any issues. wonder if the signal from it fights ps4 or it being plugged in fights the ps4. I'm turning it off for the night and see if I lose signal tonight. any other ideas?

Not sure if this is a problem with your network. My friend who has had a PS3 and played online and never had problems connecting purchased a ps4 which can't even connect to the Internet. They say it's because of his internet speed but if he was able to get on PS3, he shouldn't have that much of a prob with ps4.

I have 45mbps, sometimes the Internet test on ps4 when I'mhaving issues shows download speed of 40kbps then moment later says 10mbps all other devices flying. it makes me wonder if wifi chips can go bad. it just happened again, restarted ps4 and router and now it's getting 10mbps downloading ff7 I just bought. it quit half way thru and just refused to reconnect to Internet til I rebooted router and ps4 it's upsetting me honestly

That is a good place to start. Try that for a few days. Any chance you could try a wired connection on the PS4? That could show if you are having wireless connection issues or just network issues in general.

Good point; He might try using a Powerline adapter to get a wired connection to the PS4. They have certainly been cheap enough lately -I think I saw one posted here for $19 after rebate.

dude that is awesome, I didn't know what those are. just looked it up, I will certainly look at those. last night I played destiny for 6 hours didn't lose a single internet drop. I don't understand why microcell if it indeed is the culprit what the issue is between it and ps4 since nothing else loses signal and refused to reconnect once booted.

My roommate uses this for his ps4 and desktop pc in his bedroom since the router is in the living room. Works great!!

Have you done any configuring of the microcell? I'd set it up to only allow phones you own to use.

Perhaps it uses too much bandwidth between it, all other devices on wireless, and the physical specs of the wifi router.

I have something similar happen when the iphones are on my wifi and downloading updates.

it isn't just updates. i noticed when my roommate comes home, i get a huge lag spike. he's running a nexus 5x but i think it is just syncing garbage, email, photos and location data too.

I lose signal very little now, like once every few nights. Whats odd is, if I am party leader in destiny, and people are in my party, they get disconnected (baboon) code, which is the same code that I get when I get DC'ed, but when im leader I am not getting Dc'ed, its like it cant handle me being team leader. I may look into a new router in future, the asus rt-n66u or whatever its called is failing me.
