hackersluvme 114 December 7, 2015 at 05:05 PM More Amazon Deals
I need help. I purchased this camera but it doesn't record. I can take a pic but by the time I get the notification on my cell the perp. may be gone. Should I send it back? Please recommend a camera that records that's less than $100

thanks

Most cameras like don't actually record themselves. Many support cloud based recording services (fees involved). Pretty much all cameras like this can record to a computers on your network with some software.

Some cameras like this can record to a micro sd card.

well this is what dlink says
Included with the DCS-934L is the D-ViewCam software, which adds enhanced features and
functionality that helps you create a full surveillance system. D-ViewCam enables centralized
management of multiple network cameras, supporting up to 32 network cameras and up to 64
users. With a dedicated computer it offers digital monitoring and recording with a wide array
of features, including scheduled, motion and manual recording options for individual needs

looks like the software is here?

Software like this can be resource intensive. Often they monitor the camera all this time and perform motion detection om the computer. There are various programs that can do this including blueiris, yawcam, zoneminder (linux), and many others

The simplest thing would be to set up the camera to send an email to a DEDICATED gmail account with images every time there's motion. You could also set the camera to upload stills to an ftp server. If you want to record video without any other hardware or a performance hit on your desktop, a camera like the one fenderman recommended above is a good option.

I'm trying to figure out how to make it take a photo automatically when it detects motion.

You can do that in the camera settings via email or ftp.

You might be happier with a nicer camera.

I'm installing this software now to see if it allows me more control of this cam if I can't get things working i'll just send this one back and get another one.

Software or not, the dlink is a low resolution vga camera and is worth anywhere near the price paid. This camera is an HD 1080p camera. It has a wide angle lens and can capture the entire room vs the narrow view of the dlink.
The motion detection is also far superior since you can use the PIR sensor or advanced motion detection like link cross detection. The difference is night and day.
Here is a same wide angle 1080p video, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hwkSOf-ki9E

I DID IT! I did it!

I used the info in the link below and finally got it to work! Google was refusing to allow dlink access but after tweaking it, I did it! This is a test photo I took it looks ok to me.

Glad you got it working. Hopefully you setup a new dedicated gmail account just for this, otherwise you'll fill up your account with a bunch of pictures you don't want.

How much did you pay for this camera? There was a 2 pack of the same camera on the front page for $60 recently. Keep in mind that there are other <$120 cameras with much higher image quality.
