Disclaimer: I don't know much about computers. My daughter is tired of minecraft pocket edition and wants to play PC so she can do more things. I've been looking too long at laptops and I just need to bite the bullet and buy one. Does anyone have a rec for a laptop under 400.00. Everytime I think I have found one, someone says something negative and I question buying it. I'm guessing a dedicated graphics card would be my best bet??? Help! Thanks so much.

Yes, especially for Minecraft. Good luck finding one for under $400

An armed man is a citizen. An unarmed man is a subject.
The strongest reason for the people to retain the right to keep and bear arms is, as a last resort, to protect themselves against tyranny in government.

You don't really need dedicated graphics for Minecraft. As long as you aren't running HD mods or other resource-intensive mods. Intel HD 5000 should run Minecraft fairly well. Don't expect to do any recording/streaming though.

Probably not getting a discrete graphics card at under $400.

One of those Acer Aspire deals with a GT940m at around 400 would probably be great, but I think the most recent posting for it is dead already.

My kids played minecraft on a 4 yo dell inspiron, second generation core i5 2.3Ghz (two core with hyperthread) and integrated graphics.

Some eBay examples of what sold.

Biggest issue was heat while gaming so a laptop stand like this helps alot.

I'm not saying I would rebuy that laptop, but you can find decent laptops to play minecraft for $300 or so new or maybe 150 to 200 used.

That's one of the reasons I would opt for a discrete gpu, even if it costs a little more. The more heat you generate the sooner the system fans sound like they belong on an aircraft. I'm not sure how well a modern integrated chip would handle Minecraft, but I know some people like to mod the thing into a monster. LMAO

That should be ok...any reason you don't want to go with a desktop computer?

This is a terribly misinformed comment.

You can run minecraft on any graphics card worth $50 and above. If your screen resolution is very high (like 4K or something) then you might need a beefy card, but for just about any other regular 1080p or 720p screen, any recent mobility video card should be fine.

Here's a good deal that isn't too expensive:

if your budget is a hard 400, just get a console (xbox) and hook it up to a tv. you won't find a laptop as cheap as a console that can run it as well.

Achievements are not for the meek, it is better to forfeit inheritance of the earth so that the mighty may look upon my gamerscore, and despair. Achievements are for men who dream; men who dare; men who achieve! Men who carve out entire galaxies with nothing more than nimble cheetos-dusted fingers and their wits, and in our leisurely twilight days we shall sit by softly flickering fires with our descendants recounting the tales of these unimaginable glories.
