should I get the Pro or the Evo? I still don't fully understand the difference, how does it apply for the normal consumer?

Evo has 5 yr warranty. pro has 10. Pro is slightly faster and reliable but not noticeable for an ordinary user

so, for the average consumer, its really the warranty? which, tbh, with proper backups, I might as well just buy a new one 5 years from now because they'll drop in price by then anyways?

I always opt for the EVOs and do scheduled backups of important data. In 5 years we will most likely see more price reductions on even larger drives so I don't want to spend the extra money for a drive that may become slightly obsolete before the warranty ends. Not saying that is the right answer, just my opinion...

I paid $147.99 on 12/5 for the 500gb 850 Evo M.2 which included AC Syndicate and a 32gb microSD card for free as a bundle. Would I be able to get them to refund me the difference or no go?

Arguments for the Pro:

- 2.5% more capacity.
- 2% faster sequential read speed.
- 1% faster random read speed.
- Identical write performance.
- 10 year warranty.

Arguments against the Pro:

- Cost.
- Power consumption.

As an aside, if you're picking between a 1 TB 850 EVO Vs. a 512 GB 850 Pro, get the 1 TB 850 EVO, it is a better buy, and offers more performance benefits.

Don't buy the 840 (older model). It had issues the 850 has addressed.

850 PRO is what's on sale, not 950 PRO like I initially misread. No good reason to get an 850 PRO.

Go with the 850 EVO.
