Ordering on the web site is free ground shipping (I believe it's 5-7 days once it ships).

If you want free express shipping (1-2 business days) and are willing to order over the phone (slower than ordering online), just call your closest Microsoft Store and order over the phone. I don't know if they always give Express or if you have to ask (you could always start by asking if the laptop is in stock, and, if it is, ask what type of shipping options are available if you order online or if you order on the phone). The store number I called is: (913) 693-0901 --- and when I called I got routed to a call processing center.

This one is $50 more.....
A couple of other differences compared to the cheaper one listed. As someone noted the cheaper one is not a 1080 display. Also, it doesn't appear to have a backlit keyboard, which is a premium feature I think is important. And it seems to have wireless "N" whereas the better model also has wireless "AC" which is the newest, fastest wifi type (of course, compatible with N, G, and older formats). And the i3 is not going to match the performance of the i5 for computing-intensive tasks. Given the price and differences, to me the premium model is worth the premium.

If money is the main concern, someone looking for a basic laptop for web browsing, email, light gaming can find budget laptops for $200 or less these days. In my opinion, if you're going for the i3 at $350, spend a bit more and go for the i5 at $450 or wait and see if the $400 model comes back. (I got the $400 model and it arrived just a few days ago -- took almost 10 days for free ground shipping -- anyway, it's nice and I like it; I think it's definitely a nice model and a bargain at that price.

Finally, yes, I recommend upgrading to an SSD but to correct the post above, adding an SSD won't make the cheaper model "outperform" the i5 model in all aspects -- yes, it will help but it's not a fix-all solution. You can't replace the power of a faster processor and more memory, just by adding an SSD. (plus an SSD will have a lot less space than the 1TB included hard-drive -- so depending on how you will use it, an SSD may or may not be appropriate).

im rather computer dumb. Is this worth the price? I'm in the market for a new one. Will be used mostly for web browsing and school projects. Maybe a game or two if I get bored.

The $399 laptop was a BF deal that has been coming back in-stock off an on for the past week. It is currently out of stock right now. Since it is not an option, then the $50 price maybe worth it.

However, your needs are so basic that you might consider this one [microsoftstore.com] for $349.

5th gen i3 and less RAM. Replace the HDD with a SSD [amazon.com] for $77 and it will outperform the $449 laptop.

In for this i5 model. Not a smoking deal but Christmas is fast approaching. Will keep looking for a better deal over the next two weeks.
