Looking for a laptop similar to an HP Stream for my father, need ideas
Along with a gaming desktop I bulit that costs over $1500, I also have an HP Stream that I got for like $200 on launch day. It's the very first model they came out with, I believe, the blue one. My dad is in the market for a new laptop and really likes my Stream, but he doesn't want the exact same computer as me.
He is really looking for a computer just to do things such as browse the web, send email, and use Microsoft Word. My dad likes how my stream is portable, lightweight, has a long battery life, and doesn't have a fan that causes a lot of noise or hardware that heats up to the point of burning his legs.
My only gripes with the Stream has been the 2 GB of non-upgradeable RAM paired with a 64-bit version of Windows, as it seems to me that 32-bit would've been a better route with that RAM, as well as the tiny SSD (I believe 32 GB) that after Windows and Office and such are installed, drops to about 5 GB. I do have a 128 GB microSD card, but OneDrive refuses to use anything but the C drive and I am not able to install the latest Windows 10 update since it requires 10 GB on my main drive. Other than that, it really is a great little computer that doesn't try to be a full-featured computer, and I like that.
I'm looking to stay under $300, but honestly I'm not even sure I'm looking for a "deal" where a $400 laptop is discounted to $275 or anything. If it fits my needs and has an MSRP of $300 and isn't on sale, that's fine.
I am looking to stay under $300 with the following features:
- long battery life
- portable and lightweight
- microSD slot
- preferably a small SSD
- preferably fanless
