Thread Details

I have a 5 year old who is into Minecraft on the iPad. He is now asking for a Playstation to play on the TV.

I figured that Playstation TV would be good for him instead of buying a full game console that would not be utilized to it's full potential by a 5 year old. We could always upgrade to whatever the future generation is when he is ready for that.

Question #1: Is my reasoning on the Playstation TV correct?
Question #2: Is there a child friendly remote available or is the standard layout (2 sticks, 8 buttons) PS remote the only option?

Thanks in advance!

Seems like it would work fine. It's going to be the vita version I believe.

No other type of controller unless you're going to look at third party brands and those are usually crapola.

reddit says Vita Minecraft on PSTV works well. No controller option, though. Smart thinking, OP.

If you're looking for a cheap copy of the Vita version to get for the Playstation TV, then I would suggest to check out Target if possible. They seem to be clearing out all of their Vita games.

They HAD the digital download version(which is also cross buy with the PS3 version) for as low as $5.98 a few months ago(Sept/Oct or so), but according to Brickseek it seems to be sold out everywhere now. DPCI for it is 207-20-0962 in case you wanna check using Brickseek/Fyndly or other Target stock locators.

Only downside I could see with getting a PS TV is the memory card pricing. They're absolutely ridiculously priced and proprietary too. Target also had 16GB cards on clearance for the Vita at one point. But that was MONTHS ago. Best bet to get one cheaper than MSRP is probably Amazon's Warehouse Deals(used/trade-in/warehouse damaged items) site.

If all you'll need a memory card for is Minecraft on the PS TV, then you may be able to make due with the 4GB card from the Vita Starter kit. Target clearanced those a while ago as well for as low as $12. DPCI is 207-00-0144. I myself got one or two of these from Kmart before their gaming purge for $3-4 apiece in the hopes that they would eventually clearance the Vita system themselves. But then they purged the whole gaming section and stuff got bought up quick, so that put an end to that.

From my own experiences, he uses and abuses the sites he is a member of. He cares about no one but himself. If there's a deal ANYWHERE, he is the person to buy 100x of whatever it is to resell for profit, and usually get the deal pulled or canceled.

He lives near me. A couple years ago, he bought five copies of a game on clearance at target closest to me. Bragged about it here then soon found out the trade value wasn't worth a 'flip'. When I called him on it for being a scumbag for buying out the stock, he PM'ed me and told me he would now purposely return them to a target far away from me so I can't get a copy for myself.
Whine more, please.

This is great information that I had not considered. Thank you!
