As long as you wanted to be entertained its OK. If you want a movie that makes you rhetorically think about life then yes, it is not a good movie.
I watched this movie and it was ok, definitely better than After Earth

Haven't seen it yet, so you may be right. So far the only movies that make the "worse than AE" list for me are Starship Troopers, Snowpiercer, Battlefield Earth, and Barbarella. There may be a few more but thankfully I've managed to forget them.
