They used to make touchpads with separate buttons that actually worked, then they decided to get fancy and remove the buttons, and the touchpads don't work anymore...smh. Based on the reviews, the touchpad on this laptop is terrible. Lol at Dell listing ratings from highest to lowest...nice try, Dell.

Don't you find it weird that they are selling it for less than half the normal price with a coupon code & rebate? Even though this is a fair price for the laptop, $550 no one would pay that.

Rebate form? Blah. The actual price would be or should be 349 with coupon then another $100 rebate that will prob. take between 6 to 8 weeks to arrive. If they honor it at all or it doesnt get lost and you have to resend it. I used to be a fan of rebates until I got burned one to many times. Now I pass them by. Ymmv.

I should add that this cpu is a little on the slow side even for an i3. Not a bad computer for 349 just dont expect any heavy lifting from it.

If you are saying the "normal" price listed is much higher than what you'd usually expect to pay, especially as reader of SlickDeals, then, DING DING DING.. we have a winner -- yes, of course. retail prices tend to be high, and those of us who look for "deals" never even consider those as prices "anyone" would pay (though of course people do). Have you looked at the retail price of Crap HP laptops?
For a 17" Dell with an i3, the "retail" price seems perfectly expected to me. Would I pay that, no, but it's entirely a reasonable retail price.

My comments on this deal. I am writing this on a Dell Inspiron 17" 1600x900 which has served me very well for about 2 years. I bought it from Dell Outlet as a Refurb; I think it was around $400 (can't recall; maybe mid $400s). It has better specs, i5 proc and 1TB drive, but otherwise, it's probably very similar to this model. Also I'd note that it's taken a lot of abuse, dropped off the bed onto the floor, etc -- never any problems. I have been happy with the performance and features, though it is a mid-line model -- everyone should understand that's what the Inspiron line is.

I'd say for the "after rebate" price of $250, this is a great deal. I've never done a "slickdeals" rebate, though it's probably fine or else these deal posts would blow up for SlickDeals by next year if people get screwed. I don't like leaving $100 rebates "hanging" so I still think of this as $350 "and then you get (hopefully) the $100 back." Also you'll pay tax on the price before rebate if tax applies in your state. Most of all, I don't need this (as I said my 2-year-old Inspiron 17" is still doing fine, but, yes, I've been doing some other successful deal shopping this season too.)

For someone that wants a solid reliable 17" laptop with strong but basic features, and don't mind the rebate, I'd definitely recommend this deal.

17" laptops are going the way of the dodo. This is like the only regular 17 incher left, they killed the much better 7000 series and no XPS in site. The TN screen also kinda sucks. U have to dish out over 2000 for their alienware thing, but its so massive its unthinkable. So if you want a large screen this is it for this price.
