Garage Sale Discussion for selling stockpiles

You'd have to keep track of what he gives you, prices, and which of his items sell. I have enough to keep up with my own items, let alone someone else's. Maybe he can set up on his own property or even yours and you won't have to worry about his things, too. Maybe he doesn't want to sit out all day.....
If its just a few higher priced items (to make it worth it) then it wouldn't be too bad, but other than that, I'd pass.

I agree. I would not want to be responsible for someone else's stuff.

I agree with the other's comments on that would be alot of work. I did a garage sale with my mom and brother's girlfriend and we split each transaction and kept track of how much each person sold. It was alot of math in the head and it ended up working out OK but I didn't have as much stockpile stuff as I do now. How about maybe just buying it all from him at a cheap price and then sell it at yours so you don't have to worry about that? Although you'd be stuck with the items if they don't sell and it still may not be worth it..

It seems that having regular garage sale stuff out brings people in then they see the stockpile things and buy more. I don't do nearly as much as most people here and I'm just starting the garage sales but I like going garage saleing myself and get stuff to resale at my own alot.

My neighbor only has a few items so it shouldn't be too hard to keep track of the $$. But still, it is extra work. Unfortunately, I feel obligated to do this because of my relationship with this neighbor. So I guess I will have to grin and bear it. I'm still not sure what percentage to ask for. I think 50 might be too high but maybe 25% or so.

I guess I need to talk to him again and tip-toe around the percentage issue and just feel him out.

I do consign other people's stuff at my garage sale. I do 50/50, but I do all the work: tagging it all, etc. Some consignment shops go 60/40 (they take 40) and some are 50/50. You have the right idea to see what he is thinking- if it's just a few things that he already prices, 25% might be the way to go. Definitely smart to set the terms before the sale.

And don't forget some of his stuff might get stolen! My sister put stuff out at our GS and was adament that she get paid for what wasn't there any more cuz it must have been sold and we just didn't remember. I didn't want to make a big deal about it but I know we didn't sell all her stuff.

Was just browsing here but I think your issue is that you have people who aren't your friends blocked from viewing your profile page/pictures. Maybe try putting them on photobucket or another online photo sharing website.

Thats what I was thinking, Jen.

Sartman, why don't you just list the items like we do? It would be easier for someone to help you if they didn't have to go look at a photo of items (? is that what is in the link?) and then come back and forth here to list them as they reply. We're happy to help, but make it easier for us.
