Thread Details

It's that time of year again when Garage sales are popular. I have seen some discussion of Garage Sales in regular discussion threads, and perhaps there is talk of it in the BS thread, but I think it would be good to have it's own thread and people can add in the WIKI what sold for them and at what price - or what they will sell it for.

This way people having a garage sale can have a nice reference sheet and can learn from the mistakes of others. I will post in the WIKI info I have read.

Yes, I am having a garage sale this weekend at a friends work. I have read some info on another site and it is nice that they have their own thread for this.

Garage sales are not for everyone, please no bashing on those who wish to do it. It's a way to make money to buy more coupons and fuel your 'addiction'. LOL!

Mods, if you think this would be better suited in a different forum, please advise or move. I just thought it would be good to have a garage sale discussion and a WIKI to boot to help others.

Thanks!

Vicki

Might be worth looking in to for your area. I recently found a bunch of Buy Sell Trade groups on Facebook in my area that moms and other people post pictures of stuff to sell or ask for things they're looking for. My be a good way to keep the selling going while it's not garage saling weather Smilie
I'd be very nervous about having people that I didn't know come over to my house to look at stuff. At a sale I'm already having or a public place, sure, but at my house with just them and me no way. There are too many weirdos out there. Gotta stay safe...

What we do is meet up at a public place (a favorite is the Target parking lot).

Depending on the brand of the hair color, I get anywhere between $2-$4 for it. Lower retail priced items I sell for $2 and go up the pricing ladder from there. I get $4 for the John Fryda and Fat Foam, if that helps. I aso sell out of the reds first, then blacks, then blonds with the browns being left over. When I'm down to only a couple of browns I knock them down a price point untill they do sell. I've never had to donate any of the hair color, but those Wags 8 ct tampons, can't even give them away!

Here in the PA/NJ/DE area, the hottest colors are anything red or with red highlights!

I stopped selling hair color for a while (it was a pain!) & would donate all my MMs. Just started selling again & can't keep red in stock. Black also sells very well. Weird.

Regional differences are so interesting.

ETA: pricing at $2.50 for my next sale ... need to see if I can get some of this blonde/brunette to go ....

I get $3 for my hair color and they sell well, blonde colors fly! I am in FL with a lot of people that color their hair. When I was in TX, everyone wanted dark colors and the blondes sat.

I have all my hair color for $2.50 each. No matter what brand. It's not a fast seller, and I only "buy" it for nothing. At the end of the year, whatever is left over, gets donated.

thank you everyone most of the price i did was $2-$4
it was John Frieda at $4 and the Clairol brands i had them for $2 but changed the price to $3 cuz when they buy more then 5-7 boxes they want the price lowered
so this way if someone wants to buy all of the hair color i can be ready to bring down the price
since i price check online for Walmart and Target Prices and try to be at half lower to their prices

like the hair color is $7.99-$8.97
i price is at $3...

is that a good price? i mean if they buy most i try to bring down the price...

oh and whats the best price for Charmin and Scott toilet paper prices i got over stocked for my house and its to many and im sure another sale will come soon so i wan to sell these.... but im not in any hurry

i wasn't sure and am knew at adding things so i thought $5 for the 6pk=9 Scott hand towel

Just wanted to tell anyone who got some of the Gillette Sensor Excel cartridges on clearance at CVS, you might wanna sell those on the bay instead of at your yardsale. I got them free so I was happy to mark them $2 but I ended up looking them up on ebay and I sold 4 of them for $25 shipped, so after shipping and ebay/paypal fees I made $5 each instead of $2, I sold 3 lots of them!

I typically sell during nice weather days as I get better foot traffic. I lucked out one time and sold during the neighborhood yard sale so I had more folks than usual.

I find that once people trust you and see that you are legit, you may get regular customers! That happened to me. Be ready to haggle if you really want to get rid of things. Sometimes it's not worth holding onto certain items because you didn't get price you wanted. Medicines are terrible sellers for me.

Depends on what they are........

I had the Advil 10ct tubes marked at $1 and the Up and Up Target brand Ibuprofen 24ct marked at $0.75, the Advil sold out and the up and up sat, so brought them home and refilled out big bottle several times.
OsteoBiFlex sold for me, Culturelle always sells out, baby asprin sells good, all of the vitamin/supplement stuff goes--Vit d, Vit C, etc
The only ones that I couldn't sell were the heart supplement ones........
My Neuragen from Wags a couple of year ago sat thru a sale or two, then had a lady come in and buy them all!!

Lots of times, it just takes one person who regularly uses a product, they see your price and know its a deal and they will buy you out.

I did an indoor GS (kind of a flea market set up) last fall, had a lady see the breathe right 10ct boxes and she bought 75 boxes, her hubby used them and she knew that $2 was a steal......................

I have the indoor GS coming up in April, I do have a ton of stuff (mainly stockpile stuff) so hoping that fragrances will sell really well!!

I think it would fly for that price. I think you could get more for it. More like 75 cents. I thought I seen it at walmart for 1.28 the other day. Is it mostly one type of barilla, or a mixture of types?

How much do you sell the Culturelle for? I have a ton of kid's and adults from the Wags sales recently.

I'm not sure where else to post this, but since this thread relates to stockpiles, I thought I'd try here. I keep my stockpile in the pantry off of the kitchen, which tends to be quite cool. I noticed that some of my shampoos seem to have separated! Are they ruined now? Has anyone else seen this? Is it common? Can it be avoided? Was it likely the temperature of the room?

I've noticed something similar with my liquid dish soap, which I keep in the unheated garage. It seems to turn back to normal when I bring one upstairs and it warms up a bit.

Thanks! I'll leave them out a bit and hope they clear up!
