Been on the lookout for an X2 deal this holiday for my son. I think this is it!

Checked Keepa an it looks like the lowest price ever was $247.99 back in June.

Super slick imo! Cool

PSA: Some people (Including myself) report poor quality control on these headphones. Some of the ones made have had their earpads GLUED to the headphone, making it difficult to remove. Amazon has temporarily removed the option to purchase from them because of this defect. I can personally confirm that one of the two headphones I purchased have this problem. The first pair, which I ordered very early in the day did come with extremely minor scuffing, but otherwise no inky earpads or glued earpads. My brother's, who ordered it at night and received it the following day, does have glued earpads.

Please check your headphone earpads to make sure they are not GLUED!!

Tax means it's still only around $216. Really great deal since these will not be found lower. I scoured for a while and considered many other sets including planar magnetics from Hifiman HE400s [amazon.com]. I wish I waited now as I purchased less than a month ago for $40+ more on what was a bargain. =( I have these and love them so far. Very accurate sound w/ better low end bass than my other headsets(and I have my fair share). These are supposedly comparable to $400+ headsets easily. I use these with an SMSL M8 DAC(digital audio converter-aka sound card) and they are super clear and absolutely amazing...

Compared to the ATH M50 (w/ memory foam HM5 pads!) the X2 are the clarity winner. Even though it doesn't do the super low end shake your head rumble they definitely have clarity and fullness in bass the ATH-M50 doesn't. The open air makes a much wider soundstage, the clarity is very good and the mids are awesome while the treble is not tiring.

Compared to the Brainwavs HM5 they have more rumble and openness in soundstage. The HM5 are my go-to closed(sound doesn't leak) set for during the dead of night when I want to play my music loud. I found these to be accurate and would recommend the NVX XV100 instead for comfort. Highly recommend these as the budget set over the ATH M50. I use these with my monoprice amp + Bravo V3 tube amp and they are absolutely enthralling and although don't have the extra bass or low-end bass and wideness of soundstage, will entrance you with mids clarity and authenticity in vocal music that make everything sound like live music. I actually like this combo better in some music than my Philips X2 w/ SMSL M8 but still end up wearing the Philips X2 because they have better treble and bass and soundstage.

I also have the Baldoor E100(mrice) $20 which are earbuds that have yurbuds molded fittings attached to them to help them stay in ear and channel the sound into the canal better. These are pretty good as well although not nearly the level of the full size cans. Would I prefer in most situations these over the ATH M50? no but for a portable out-of-ear earbuds these are pretty dang good...

I have some Etymotic Research ER4 that I think are very accurate but lack the bass and soundstage and ambiance/presence of the X2.

The ATH M50 is the only one that I don't use and although are pretty good especially at the price with treble and low end bass for thump, don't have the clarity or soundstage like my recommended cans.

If you want to spend just $100 and don't care for the slight rumble of the ATH M50, get the NVX XV100. If you want to spend only $216, then the X2 is most likely the best bargain. The other options could be when Massdrop has the AKG 7xx limited editions at $199 and the Beyerdynamic DT880 [massdrop.com] at $240. Did I mention these are by far the best build of anything I've encountered. Pure metal, exquisite details in metal grill/external cups/cord plug/tension in the band/adjustable head fitting, leather, hefty feel (and look =/), velour/memory foam comfort, detachable super high quality cord. I can't recommend anything else although I haven't heard the Sennheiser HD600 or HD650. From what I hear, the X2 has more full and low bass and better bass details w/ less soundstage and less warmth and are $100 more at $300.

Also, if you want a DAC, Massdrop has the aune-x1s-32bit-384-dsd128-mini-dac for $199 once a few more order [massdrop.com] They also have the ODAC for $120 [massdrop.com]
(Referral link can be given upon request if you want to give me credit [massdrop.com]. =)

Hope this helps you.

Awesome! I've waiting for the X2 to go below $200! Chase 10% back on Amazon should cover that CA tax for me.

I hope this is the perfect pairing with a Senn HD600, I want something a little more fun for hip-hop, EDM, and gaming.
