All,
I have a gift card, but I am finding the lack of deals and hard-to-navigate website frustrating. does anyone have a suggestion on something to use the $50 GC on? Ideally I am looking for a DOCSIS 3.0 cable modem and AC-wireless router combo

You will likely be better off buying the cable modem and router separately. Tieing the 2 together rob you of flexibility and usually incur an added cost. There really is nothing to gain buying a combo unit outside of saving a little desk space. My 2 cents.

$50 is only going to cover part of the cost of one of them unless you want to buy real cheap stuff. It really depends on your needs for a router and what you are looking for performance-wise. One can spend $60 -200+ on a router.

Add in routers tend to be somewhat problematic review-wise as home networking is fairly complicated to set up properly for the average person and is affected by a number of variables in the home such as walls, interference, etc. I would pick a router that is highly rated, you think meets your needs and is competitively priced vs. Amazon and go with that to use the gift card.

As for a cable modem, it is not really my area of expertise as to which ones are good and which aren't. They sell a few at Microcenter,

With the NetGear CM500 getting fairly decent reviews at Amazon, though as I said, I have no first hand knowledge of it. Of course it is selling for $16 more at Microcenter, so it is not really a good buy there.
