Good deal! Remember that Vietnamese visas for Americans have dropped to only $25 (but there is still some hassle)

I guess you don't travel much. Thailand is great and all, been there a dozen times over the last 20+ yrs and always enjoyed my stay. With that said, I have seen Thailand develop into a place too touristy and over commercialized. Vietnam on the other hand id the Thailand of 20 yrs ago. Less commercialized, lots more bargain, and yes less developed but more quaint. Pros and cons of it, I still prefer to visit Vietnam lately than Thailand.

Back to deal: Slick pricing. I wish I can go!!

Good deal. I got the free tour to Seoul during a stopover at Incheon airport on the return flight from Saigon. I picked a 24-hr stopover, slept on a couch at the airport, signed up in the morning for a free 8-hr bus tour of Seoul (must pay $10 for lunch at a decent restaurant) to see cultural places (temples, royal palace...), some shopping. I would fly Asiana again to Vietnam, and do the free bus tour while in transit in Korea.

I highly, highly recommend that those who are not Vietnam citizens or have a Vietnam Visa to go through a travel agency to have your Visa done. Also, remember to have it done as MULTIPLE ENTRY Visa and not single entry.

I went to VN a few months ago with a Caucasian friend of mine and he thought it was okay to just fill out the online Visa request form. When we got there he was told that he needed an invite from a business or a travel agency in VN. Since he did not have that, they agreed to "sponsor" him and give him an invite for $160. He also mistakenly did Single Entry and ended up having to do another Visa since we went to Thailand and came back into VN (Visa was cheaper second time since he had the invite already).

All in all we spent about 2+ hours waiting and going through all that and my friend spent $240+ on his Visa(s). I would recommend paying the $60 or so to have it done right by a travel agency and save yourself the hassle. I saw so many foreigners getting stuck with the same thing at the airport. Another thing too is that they block the WiFi at customs area so you can't go online and look for other options. Tourist trap? Perhaps. Just don't take the chance.

I just got back from Thailand. Chiang Mai and Bangkok. A number of the people who were cruising around SE Asia all liked Vietnam better.

BKK is a dump. Chaing Mai is a neat town, but very, very touristy. Southern Thailand is pretty, but hard to get away from the tourist areas.

That being said, I had a blast in Chaing Mai.

Vietnamese is easier to learn/read since they use latin based characters.

I hear you. I'm doing the same thing. Have a 2 day layover on my way back from Saigon (real name). (not no damn communist ho chi minh name). but that's another topic. anyhow hope to enjoy Seoul on the way back.

As for the visa permit, you better make sure you get one in the us before you go or if you plan on going often you should do the multiple entry one for a few dollars more. these communist country try to do anything just to get a few dollars more. hate the system but i have family there so have no choice. I'm also checking out thailand too.
