Verizon Denying me iphone trade in promo for 6S upgrade, advice please.

pollock21 7 13 December 16, 2015 at 09:31 AM
I was under contract with Verizon until the end of February 2016. The 6S had just hit stores and verizon was running a special that if you upgrade to the 6S device installment program, they will give $100 on iphone 4 trade in, $200 5C, $300 5S and $400 on the 6.

I had a 5S and wasn't really going to do much until my contract was up. But man, I really wanted to get in line with the release cycles. Anyway, they sent me a text saying that I could upgrade early into the installment plan.

Buyout at that point was $200 on my 2 year and figured my 5S wasn't worth too much more than that, especially with the hassle of selling. Went to the store and did the upgrade, girl told me she has to take my old phone that day.

All is good. Next day I get the attached text message. Only way I can interpret that is that I was eligible for the trade in credit. So I went to the site to enter the promo code and it said they would send me a return box. Since I had no phone, I thought it best to call. The guy on the phone told me that the code should be good if I received it, to go ahead and enter it in then once they got the phone back from the store I should get the credit. Well, still no credit.

Called back last week and the girl said that I shouldn't have received that promo since the early upgrade required the trade in at the store and that was the promototion I used. But she escalated to her manager and said that she expected them to go ahead and give me the credit and I should hear back in 24 hours. That was Wed 12-9. No call back. I call back today and was basically told I was SOL.

I was told that I couldn't double up promos. I told them what I had been told various times when I had called but they didn't care. Escalated to a manager and no dice. I asked specifically, why did I receive a text for a promo with a promo code if I was not eligible for it. They just said they sent that to everyone that upgraded. I told them again, if I was not eligible for it, I shouldn't receive it. But they said I am eligible and could trade in any other phone against the deal.

To me, as the customer, it was confusing and they just would not acknowledge anything from my point of view. The girl at the store didn't tell me that I would be excluded from other promos, but let's be real, deep down I figured that was the case.

However, when you get a text like that the next day, how could you think anything else than I was eligible for the trade in credit?

I spoke to numerous reps and a manager and they wouldn't budge an inch. Even after being told that the code should be good to go, and another rep telling me that she expected they would end up giving me the credit. Didn't even offer a bill credit or anything for my frustration and confusion. Personally, I'm done with Verizon once I get the phone paid off.

Might even buy the phone out and move on, then sell the phone. I have the 64gb 6s and owe like $650 on it, so should be able to break even. Not that I expect much better from other providers though. Whole thing left a really bad taste in my mouth.

My question to you all, should I let it lie at this point? Try to escalate further? Am I wrong to expect the credit based on the text even though I upgraded early? Interested to hear everyone's thoughts. I know this is the community to come to for advice on deals and credits, there are some hammers on here!

I am not an expert but they probably won't give you the 2nd trade in. You traded you phone in on the promotion and received the trade in as stated for the S5 right? If they gave you that money then they probably won't do anything else. Now on the other hand if you would have purchased a cheap trade in phone and just sent that in the box that would have come if you filled out the trade in request online using the text code it probably would have worked.

Have you tried using the code at vzw.com/tradein You will need another phone to use as trade in and if you don't have a phone to use---send me a PM and I will try it on one of mine and let you know if it works--then you can try sending the phone in once the box is sent to you. It might have expired by now.

Basically they took my 5S as a trade for the early upgrade. Then they s my me the text promo which led me to believe that trade was eligible for the promotion. The girl at the store just told me they had to take my old phone that day. It wasn't clear that it wouldn't be eligible for the trade in promotion.

They told me today that I should still be able to use that code. I need to see if I still have an old junker sitting around. I just interpreted the text as saying the 5S I traded for the upgrade was eligible for the credit.

Getting that text has been referred to here as a double dip. It's a great thing so I wouldn't complain. If you don't have an old phone, buy a ten dollar smartphone and trade that in. You will get a 300 dollar credit on your account. As someone else stated, it's best to test out the promo code on the website first to verify if it still valid, but don't go all the way through the process until you have the meid of the phone you will really be trading in.

I've been trying to find out the process for the double dip but have not found the steps to do this.

I just upgraded two lines and received the TB trade in codes via sms. You said to go to the website and enter all inof for trade in. Besides that what is the rest of the steps?

Do I do this logged into my account? Does it require opening up another line of service?

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thx.

i'm gonna try and track down an old smart phone. I'm hoping the code is still good to go. Looks like it's only $100 for a smartphone and goes up for iphones. Only problem is they told me to redeem it already and they had sent me the shipping box. Not sure if that would cancel it or if they'll send me another return box. Either way, once I get my hands on a phone I'll give it a shot.

From what I learned yesterday, if you get that code, you can then trade in any eligible phone. They told me that it didn't have to be the one I traded in on my early upgrade. So I guess it needs to be looked at as more of a bonus code I suppose. You follow the text instructions to the trade in link and enter your info there along with the code. They ship you a return box, you pack the phone and send it back.

Thx for the info - So the bonus code, does it require you to open a new line of service?

People usually get it by luck after opening a new kind of service. It's not guaranteed though. Some people get it after upgrading to a new phone too.
