Very good deal on this lens. the deal comes with extra 128gb memory card, several different bundled software and extra $50 rebate

focus camera

Ordered a battery grip with free shipping

Realized that I have ordered wrong model 10 minutes later

Tried to contact CS at that time

No CS since it was a Friday night/out of working hours

Emailed Focus Camera regarding cancellation

Got a reply next Monday if not Tuesday saying order can't be cancelled

Contacted them during their working hours, explained the situation, and was told just to refuse the delivery and ill get a full refund

Package delivery refused

No refund after 3 business days after they received the refused package

Contacted FC via email

Didn't get any reply, but seeing a refund that is $7 less than what I have paid

Glad only lost $7 from this but decided to avoid this Focus Camera

Check their reviews online, and your experience may be different.

I understand it's half of my fault but those online reviews scares me.

$7 less due to them taking out shipping costs, fairly normal.
cant reach on holidays due to them being closed due to religious beliefs.

cant cancel probably due to it already being in shipping process.

i would always call not email... was it a bit tedious, yes, but i think the process worked

I don't have experience with this company and am not kicking them. Based on this single anecdotic evidence, I am not going to agree with a claim that they are a bad business. I am pretty sure they are not. But this is a typical example of how a small issue and a (mostly internal) miscommunication turns into a PR disaster.

I think they did drop the ball in this particular case. When the CSR told him it was OK to refuse the package, he/she set the expectation of a smooth cancellation and implicitly took the responsibility for the shipping costs. Probably, whoever was processing the refund did not know of the agreement that this buyer reached with the phone CSR and withheld the shipping costs as per the standard procedure. I would have been pissed too.

I understand the shipping cost thing but I never had any experience with any online retailer deduct "shipping cost" for free shipping item.

I called them once during lunch time, email is just more convenient for me.

I will be perfectly fine if they are upfront about it.

I was instructed to refuse the package to get a full refund. I see a bigger issue here to not keep the promise than the $7

As I said, above is my personal experience.

I have been looking at this lens as a walkaround/travel lens for my 7DII, but I am afraid that I won't like the results... especially on the long end.

The Canon 18-135 is sharper across the range it covers and at all apertures. Everything past 100 on the Tamron looks a little iffy, especially away from the center of the frame. Clearly a superzoom is going to have compromises, but does this one represent acceptable compromise?

doesn't really looke that much wors than the canon IMHO but the again I'm just a hobbist.

also you have to consider the added reach and versatility of having the extra long reach past 135 to 300mm.

I linked to the best case scenario with the lenses stopped down.

Try opening both up to their largest apertures. Then try extending the Tamron out past 100... on to 200 and 300....

So I am left wondering if it would be better to just stay away from those longer focal lengths.

You can fix distortion and chromatic aberrations in post, but there is nothing you can do to regain sharpness (yes you can add sharpening, but that only works a bit before ruining a picture. It is more of an optical illusion than actual sharpness).

Question: was the $7 return shipping or a re-stock fee?

Restocking fees are not entirely unreasonable as it's not the vendor's fault that an error occurred on the part of the buyer. Hey, they're probably working on thin margins with overworked staff who probably brown bag their lunches.

My purchases from this company were as described, with fast delivery, and in new condition.

You might want to check out the Sigma 18-250mm HSM Macro lens. I got it on a SD sale at $249.99 from Buydig and now shows $349. most places. I use it on my Pentax K50 and am very pleased as images looks sharp at length. Can't beat Sigma's 4 year warranty!
