lonely...
I had to chime in on this one, because I just went through the nightmare of getting a new bed. And since I only get one about every 15 years I was way out of touch with all that is available these days.

I'm a cheap bastard when it comes to most things .. but a bed is NOT ever to be looked at in the terms of cost. I paid $950 on a great sale some 15 years ago for the one I have and its been a great bed.

Be forewarned that mattresses have HUGE mark-ups and the terms and promos can get extremely misleading and confusing. So to find a truly great deal takes a LOT of leg work and information. So do you due diligence and RESEARCH!

I strongly recommend going to a local showroom and trying out ANY bed before you buy. Take your time, ask lots of questions and be prepared to spend several hours trying out the beds and get ALL the detailed information about the bed, how it is made, the WARRANTY (IN DETAILED SPECIFICS) etc.

Then PRICE MATCH like a MoFo!!! Smilie Contact many vendors and pit them against each other for the sale.

I finally got a great deal on a fantastic bed! I got the Beautyrest Black Series Evie queen bed, with the Serta II adjustable frame (head and legs .. no massage..with all the memory foam and padding you can't really feel a massage) and even twisted some arms on the tax.

Out the door with everything $2,349! I know, sounds expensive, but when you spend 1/3 of your life on something, its easily worth the cost on the front end to have 15+ years of true comfort! Smilie

I did my homework and actually saved $1200 off their best BF sale price!!! Smilie

So be careful when buying any bed, because you are going to have to live on it for a long time to come. Smilie .
IMO, do NOT buy Simmons.

I bought their top-of-the-line Black Label mattress a few years ago, and it started to sag after 3 months. I thought, no problem, i am covered by a 20 year warranty right? Simmons has the WORST customer service out of any company I have dealt with. I am talking about being hung up on by rude CSRs who are trained not to help with warranties.

Their 20 year warranties are nearly useless. The reason why they offer them is because they know how to deny your claim.

1. to make a claim, they will send out a guy to measure the sagging on your mattress. Problem is, they do this with no load on the mattress, which is normally when you would have the problem (when you are sleeping on it). The way they do this is to use a string with weights on both ends, and place it over the mattress. That creates a horizontal line, and they use a ruler to measure the distance between that line and the center of mattress. Foam will usually hide this, as when there is no load, the foam expands to hide the true sag.

2. Even if there is a sag, you must be OVER a certain number of inches to qualify for the warranty. This number varies with each mattress, softer ones having higher requirements. In other words, a firm mattress may require 2-3 inches, while a soft one may require 4-5 inches.

3. They violate consumer laws by saying that any type of mark on the mattress will void the warranty. If you have a pen mark, any type of stain, etc.

They do NOT stand behind their product at all.

More research indicates that they were bought out by a hedge fund or PE firm a few years ago. They used to have awesome mattresses, which were double sided so you could flip them. Now, they are just a huge marketing company (and admittedly, they do a damn good job with all their new "technologies") .However, this new tech isn't really tech. It's just ways to save money.

For instance, they market their new mattresses as never needing any flipping. This is nonsense. They stopped making them double sided to make money. They haven't done anything to prevent sagging that would not require flipping.

They also market all this edge support, and breathable sides nonsense. It's just not true. Edges still sag when you sit on them, and the breathable mesh doesn't really do anything for sleep temp. If anything, the foam builds heat after the initial cooling effect wears off.

If you MUST buy a mattress, get one with ZERO foam. Foam degrades under body heat. they know this. They love this. Once that foam degrades, you will be left wanting a new mattress. The old pillow tops with fiber lasted much longer.

I would also avoid sleep city. they had a 100 day guarantee, but they were very reluctant to honor it. When I tried, they said they would have to charge me $500 or so for shipping charges. They also ended up straight up ignoring my emails.

I got the low profile box spring. It works perfectly fine. I'm glad I didn't get the full size because then it would've been too high.

A lot less fatigue on the wrist. Tons of support in the shoulder area as well.
