Mac won't work with a matched pair of RAM.

So I decided to upgrade my Mac with 2GB of RAM. I know, it's overkill but I wanted to be future proof. So I got a matched pair of 1GB sticks. I put them in and my Mac will only recognize 1GB. I tried removing and reseating a few times. Same result. So I put in the old stick in place of one of the matched sticks. It then recognized 2GB. I verified that all 3 sticks, matched pair and the old stick, all work and are good independently. It does matter which of the matched pair sticks I use but as long as I combine it with the old mismatched stick they will work at 2GB. Why is this? It makes no sense.

You need to tell us which mac you have specifically, ideally the model number. 2gb of ram is not overkill for a modern computer. After we know what you have we can move forward.

Some help in finding the numbers you need http://www.everymac.com/ultimate-mac-lookup/
