Good keyboard\USB AB switch for my situation?

YanksIn2009 3,105 773 December 18, 2015 at 05:33 AM
Can anyone recommend a good usb\keyboard AB or KVM switch for my situation below?

I have a powered\lighted, cheryy mx switch, mechanical keyboard (uses 2 usb ports, one of which is to power the lighted keys) and want to share it between two PCs. Do not really care about the video (HDMI to an HD TV from each PC currently) but if it has that it would be a bonus. Similarly shared sound\speakers would be a bonus as well. I have seen some AB switches in the $20 range and others that cost well over $100 but am not sure how the power draw from the keyboard factors.

Thanks.

The power cable shouldn't need any fancy switch, you should be able to just plug it into a phone charger and use it just fine - the difference between the $20 switch and the $100 switch is likely that the $20 one has a physical button that you need to push, whereas the $100 one can listen in on the signal and switch from a keyboard command (such as scroll lock)

My strategy is to connect a powered USB hub (my monitor) into a cheap USB switch. I don't have anything with particularly high power requirements though.

The one I use is: http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B00...ref=plSrch. It's also available for a few bucks less for the 2pc version.
