Great price! The phone market on slickdeals has been a little saturated lately (good thing). I doubt this will get much attention.

I'm new to all this....GSM means it does not work with RingPlus, right?

This is extremely tempting, especially with the $25 back from Amex offer with NewEgg.

I have the Idol 3 which is very capable, takes great photos and has band 12 (data only), but wonder if the extra RAM in the Zenfone would be more responsive.

First hand experience here. I'm using this phone.

the 4gb ram does help with multitasking greatly. The phone is solid and snappy but I don't know if it's any noticeable difference between the idol and zf2.

This phone is big. 5.5" o.o hard to use one hand but it has a feature where you double tap the home screen and it resizes the screen for one handed operation.

I picked up the 32GB/3GB Zenfone 2 Laser with the Snapdragon 615 processor for $154 a couple of weeks ago. Not sure you can get it for now, but I can't imagine this phone being worth the almost $100 premium.

The ZF2L is downright snappy, despite the significant ASUS bloat. The laser noticeably speeds up AF on the camera. I don't necessarily find high onboard storage to be a good thing, as I like storage for my media to be removable...and a 32GB microSD card can be had for peanuts. And a removable/replaceable battery is a requirement of mine. Also, I'm not sure that both SIMs in the Intel version support LTE, while they do in the Qualcomm verison. Certainly the removal of quick charging from the Qualcomm version is a solid ding against it. A dumb move on ASUS' part, IMO.

I apologize if it seems like I'm TC'ing. That's not my intent. And I'm aware of (and agree with) the old SD go-to of "it doesn't matter what you could have gotten it for, it matters what you can get it for now", so it's not a direct comparison. I just think it's a good idea to point out the differences in the models and let folks decide if the differences are worth the premium. It wouldn't be for me.

Thanks for the feedback, the extra RAM would be great, but otherwise having mostly good experiences with the Idol 3 up until a recent Google Maps update.

The last three or so Google Maps updates are very unstable with the Idol 3, the app crashes silently and doesn't restart automatically, not good when using for navigation. I have switched to using Waze for navigation and Google Maps just to look up travel time estimates and hours for places.

How's the brightness on this phone? I hear conflicting opinions on it.

I, too, have not used my $25 back from American Express yet. Have you played with the FM radio? Would it be possible to listen to FM radio without headphones (antenna)?
