I bought this few months back and looks like free this time.

It is a really nice shredder. Good Luck!

Two-Day Shoprunner eligible.

NOT SO EASY REBATE - NOTE THAT MANY PEOPLE ARE FINDING THAT THEIR REBATE SUBMITTED IS NOT IN STAPLES SYSTEM, DESPITE GETTING A CONFIRMATION. Review message at end of this thread for details. If you submitted your rebate online you'll want to check that the status shows as in process. Many are finding their rebate ending up in a dark hole that despite having a tracking number the rebate CSR is unable to find any such rebate. You'll need to call, they will need to then re-submit manually while you are on the call.

Yes, I do understand your concern and I have undergone through the form as well.
11:17:33 AM xxxxx
So, why is it not a valid rebate?
11:17:35 AM Roshan J.
However, I confirmed with our experts and they informed that the Rebate is no longer active.

ok but why
11:18:45 AM Roshan J.
It has been advised by our corporate office as per our marketing team.

You said its a rebate from the manufacturer. What does Staples marketing team have to do with the manufacturer's rebate?
11:21:00 AM Roshan J.
The Rebate has been called off by the manufacturer.

Well @ dealnewb, I would take that "info" with a grain of salt, as the rebate is still showing up on the Staples rebate site. What I believe, is this non-English as his first language chat rep and whomever he might have checked with misunderstood.
Just because Staples took it down only means they, or possibly the mfg (makes no sense as you pointed out) no longer want to give these away. That does not mean they will deny those that were able to purchase them while they were available, despite what said rep told you. Staples does pull rebate shenanigans, but so far not that bad. This would cause a big ripple as it was so popular.

Staples app list the item at $74.99 and mobile site shows $39.99. But when you add to cart it does show up as $34.99 on both mobile app and website.

I typically shy away from rebates due to bad past experiences, can anyone comment on how Staples rebates are?

For the most part, great. Last year they did have a couple of issues, but a chat takes care of them. Very speedy, for the most part.
