teeth cleaning we pay $5 copay..filling also paid $5 copay

i enclosed a detail of their benefits in attachment..though dont know what most of it means

our renewal is in march 2016

I pay $0 for Delta Premier PPO. $30 a month is too much. 100% covered for diagnostic and preventative services. 90% covered for everything else. $50 max deductible. $2k maximum per year in services

That sounds pretty good. One visit at my dentist can be ~$125 for a cleaning and exam (not counting x-rays), so you already come out ahead just by the two of you going twice a year as recommended ($500 with no insurance vs your $380 premiums + copays).

The $0 that flatlight pays is because his employer picks up the entire premium or some other kind of similar benefit.

Actually sounds about right. I think DW pays $16 semi-monthly for our family (4) but that's just OUR portion; dunno what the employer pays. Cleanings free, fillings free (OK OP pays $5, whatever). Only major stuff I've had done is crowns which are 50% ($500 oop).

(DW is a teacher so that $16 biweekly is really only 20 payments for the year, not 26 (summers not included), so $320 or so for the year)

$30/month is very common. There are plenty of plans that are higher. You definitely get the benefit. You should be receiving benefit mailings from your dental insurance showing you what the procedure costs and what they paid. You can easily pay more than $360/yr just for cleanings for the both of you not to mention filings. It's worth it.

I hear ya -- it's expensive out there. Dental insurance is definitely worth having if you at least use the cleanings (and you should). FYI, I pay more than $30/month. But the cleanings alone definitely cost more than the premiums and if you have a filing, that is more than worth it.

Best places to start saving money is:
cellphones and their plans
television package and internet plan
eating out money
grocery budget

You can almost certainly find something in there to trim up. Good luck to you.
