Picked up a SSD for my son to upgrade from HDD,
using EZ gig iv to clone to SSD and we get a write error and seems to stop at 76%

Can He not just download Windows and use his Key to install on the new SSD?

We need more info please.

What brand of SSD did you buy?

What version of Windows is your son running?

I can't say I know that cloning program or have even heard of it. Also a specific error might help too. It could be an error in the HD as well, a full scandisk would be worth doing.

EaseUS TODO http://www.todo-backup.com/produc...wnload.htm is the free tool that usually get's recommended if you don't have a Samsung or Intel SSD that come with their own excellent tools.

The new SSD is Samsung 850 EVO
replacing a Toshiba HDD

He had upgraded to Windows 10 from Windows 7

The cloning was Visiontek
Visiontek cloning [amazon.com]

when I see the screen it shows

Current Sector: ( the numbers climb as it loads I guess )
read error: 0
write error: ( matches the current sector numbers above )

Not sure what I'm doing wrong, did this a year ago on my old CPU and no problem, was done in about an hour.

*** restarted it and walked through the process and it seems to be doing correct now... I will report back.

Is there a reason you didn't want to use the Samsung Data Migration Software?

just do a fresh install. The lack of clutter and performance increase is worth whatever time is needed to reinstall and configure programs.

I would recommend this too if it really didnt work.

It is far safer down the road in terms of driver issues and software incompatibility.

if you're looking to ugprade so many parts, might as well build a new PC.
what are you going to do w/ a bunch of spares
from HDD to SSD should be a fresh install as earlier stated also
Hope you don't run into issues w/ speed/boot time later

Don't do this, Don't edit your original post so much. Leave it so it can be searched for and help others etc. You can start a new post and reference the old post if it's relevant.
