I think PSN may be getting hacked earlier than Christmas, PSN portion of internet test on PS3 is failing every time...

Thread Details

Either that or I need to reset my damn router for the first time in about two weeks. I get an IP address just fine for PSN and it signs in normally. But trying to test my connection via the PS3's internet test FAILS on PSN with the message that my email address or password is wrong, which it can't be cuz I just changed it and it still logs me back into PSN after the failure.

Yet I also keep getting connection to server timed out messages when trying to go through my download list of digital games via the PS3. Very very weird.

Anyone have any ideas?

It's STILL doing this nonsense even after THREE modem resets and restarting the PS3 at least twice.

Bad part is the modem HAD to be reset THREE times cuz it failed to reconnect to the internet the first two times(receive and send lights on it were flashing blue). Friggin thing isn't even 2 years old at this point, so there better not be a damn issue with it.

He lives near me. A couple years ago, he bought five copies of a game on clearance at target closest to me. Bragged about it here then soon found out the trade value wasn't worth a 'flip'. When I called him on it for being a scumbag for buying out the stock, he PM'ed me and told me he would now purposely return them to a target far away from me so I can't get a copy for myself.
Whine more, please.

Is the ps4 hard wired into the router or are you using wireless?

Wireless connection could have interference causing drops. That is one reason why I didn't invest into the Harmony base and cell phone setup, because typical 2.4Ghz internet would cause interference and prevent it from working.

Also, if you are resetting your router every 2 weeks or less, there is something wrong with your router, or you just have a cheap one. After I get my routers set up, I usually don't do hard resets until I add new equipment or I move apartments, meaning at least once a year, definitely not monthly, and certainly not weekly (or two in the case).

Its most likely not your ps3. Try updating your credentials in the playstation network on your computer. Then trying logging in and doing your test.

Last, you say it only fails on the test. Is that a vital step to take or can you skip it? Maybe there is a bug from the last update and has an issue so make the necessary changes to your settings and then see if you can get to the store without speed testing the connection.

Just some thoughts. Be blessed in your troubleshooting.

Why don't you just go to the PSN store from your PC instead and see if you can login that way. If it still gives you bad username/password then yes, you've been hacked. There are multiple tools out in the wild for people to hack TERRIBLE passwords. Normally when someone gets hacked their password has NO upper case letter and is all lower case AND has no special characters.

I think your PS3 is broken. You should definitely return it to your farthest gamestop.

Only 3 resets before posting here? You should try resetting the modem and ps3 simultaneously at least 5 more times. If that doesn't work then boot the ps3 in safe mode and revert to the last backup. After that try resetting up to a few more times until it works. If that still doesn't work, revert to the backup before that and repeat.

If that still doesn't do it the try setting up a new psn account and see if that works. If it does, reset until it works in the main account. It can take several resets sometimes. Keep at it.

I only really reset my modem because I know that's what I did when I was on DSL because after a while the connection would slow down. So it's just something I've kind of stuck doing since those days.

I did try changing the password via the PSN website and it's still giving me the PSN failure on the internet test. But the account isn't doing anything unusual otherwise. I just wanted to check my internet connection via the PS3 for the sake of doing so.

Unfortunately skipping the PSN log in is NOT a possibility for the test. I did recently(within the last 2-3 months) uncheck the 'save password' thing on PSN and I have to manually enter it EVERY time when I go to log in now. So I wonder if that's causing it to fail since it never did before I unchecked that. Yet after failing the internet test it will then go back into PSN and sign in properly as long as I signed in BEFORE the test.

Finally I have my PS3 hooked up via ethernet cable directly to the modem. So internet speed/quality shouldn't be an issue.

That's not the case with my password though. Mine has upper and lower case letters as well as numbers but I haven't added any special characters like @*^$&^#*$ to it though.

How about you post your password and we'll tell you how strong it is?

I'd call the geek squad if you have already reset it at least 20 times. Might have a problem then...
