Windows 7 retail version how to preserve the license and upgrade to Win 10.

need4speed 22 10 December 27, 2015 at 08:23 AM
I have a Win 7 pro retail package, never installed. I would like to upgrade it to win 10 pro license since the upgrade is free until summer 2017.

-What is the easiest way to perform this? I do not have spare commuter to install and upgrade.

-Is it possible to install it as a virtual machine and then upgrade it as virtual machine? in this case my medium is still be win 7 right? . if i did this, how do i install the upgraded win 10 it on another machine?

Note: bought this when windows 7 came out to use in a system to be built which never happened. Thought of selling selling it on ebay may times but was little leery of selling software on ebay - afraid of chargebacks etc. Thought will keep it but don't want to loose the ability to upgrade to win 10 which is free until summer 2017.

I would suggest getting another hard drive and installing your WIN7 Pro on that, then take it out or disconnect it. You can now upgrade your old hd WIN7 to WIN10

this is exactly what i did. i used ease US to clone the original and then you can upgrade either one to win10. you can close to a hdd/ssd of the same side or bigger, but not smaller.

Once you upgrade the win7 license to win10 it will no longer work for win7 activations. That said I am sure you could install win7, activate, then disconnect it from the internet or block communication to the MS servers THEN install win10 on another machine.
