Windows update on Win7 Not working

Devedander 8,844 826 December 27, 2015 at 09:42 PM
Got an old netbook with Win7 on it that we use to take on vacations as a cheap don't worry about it laptop solution. Every year I update it before we head out, this year the updates just keep searching and downloads always stay at 0% and 0 downloaded for over a day now...

I've seen some mention of people having similar issues on the net but nothing solid or any solutions.

Anyone got anything other than the obvious upgrade to win 10?

Click on start/shut down and see if "install updates and shut down" is an option. I've had the exact same symptoms with Windows 7 machines but all the updates installed when I shut down and then restarted the computer.

Any of these should help you out, I suspect once you get it a bit more current the traditional method will work. https://www.raymond.cc/blog/offli.../view-all/

Vague questions receive vague answers . . . . . .

  1. Click the start button and type in services.msc
  2. Stop the Windows Update Service.
  3. Delete the contents of the C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution folder
  4. Start the Windows Update Service.
  5. Try Windows Update again.

I know this is a late answer, but in case anybody else comes across this issue I just solved this problem by manually installing this update:

When I had this issue and went through a ton of various steps and troubleshooting (no small amount, believe me), what finally fixed it was downloading and running the Windows System Update Readiness Tool.
