For the next little while, this little blog is going to get a little crazy as it relates to this little thing we've been working on for more than two years. Ok, there is nothing little about it.
We're thrilled to announce the New YNAB, (we'll just call it "YNAB" going forward) which will land/launch/premiere/be live in two days. December 30 is launch day!
In the past decade, we've learned a lot--not only about building budgeting software but about how people learn to budget and why they stick with it--and we've put it all into this new version. We built it from the ground up. It's the best YNAB yet.
We've been quietly (sort of, quietly?) testing things in the wild for the past several months and can't wait to open the floodgates!
Over the next several weeks we'll be answering all your questions, full of announcements and features and updates and new thinking around the Method. We will surely exhaust you with blog posts. But it's just that big.
Two days and the New YNAB becomes YNAB.
EDIT: IT IS LIVE!!

It is unfortunately. But between the savings I get from using slickdeals.... or at least the less spending i will be doing on here, I can make up for it during the year.

It's simple math people. Not sure why you need to enter all your personal info in to an on-line system that charges you...

It doesn't. I plan on using YNAB4 for many years to come. I've got three years on it, and it's not going to magically quit working tomorrow.

This is kinda concerning to me. YNAB literally changed my life when I started using it 2 years ago. And this is the first I am hearing about a subscription based service. Feeling ripped off knowing I already paid outright for software, and now they are charging monthly?

Why feel ripped off though? I don't at all. The $60 software I bought three years ago was totally worth the money then and now. I'm not mad when a sequel to a game comes out or a new iteration of anything comes out, it's just product life cycle.

The OP stated that it will have a one time $45 lifetime fee which I can't find anywhere, but if that's the case, I will purchase it and have it just in case I ever do decide to start using it.

The $45 lifetime is not one time, it is $45 a year for life (never goes up) if you sign on with introductory price.

Ooooohhh. Yea screw that. It's not worth. I'm just not looking forward to mobile apps stop working for YNAB 4. Hopefully I can back them up somehow along with the latest copy of YNAB so I always have the apps and can hopefully make them work.

Have they said YNAB4 apps will stop working? Will they pull it from apple store? Someone recommended to DL the windows and OSX version in case you use a different OS in future.

They have not said yet as far as I know, but at some point some iOS update will probably break the YNAB app and that will be game over. I think YNAB developers said they will support YNAB 4 for a year after it stops being sold, which sounds like will be tomorrow.

But still, I would be able to get used to not having my mobile app. It will be just slightly more tedious putting things in once I get home. It is a heck of a lot easier to quickly input a lot of things on the PC though, that's for sure.
