just RMA'd a 4TB Seagate drive to Newegg yesterday. Not a lot of reviews out for this yet. I'll give it a try. Thanks OP!

edit: Amazon is OOS but can still order for later shipping. no tax for me from B&H and it is IN stock

These drives come 2nd to only the WD Blacks and for about 2/3 the price. They're great drives.

Can't you still purchase it? You just have to wait for it to ship.

It says "Your account will only be charged when we ship the item." So I don't think it will work

they (newegg) have gotten better but still not as good as Amazon or other retailers. the drive came in a medium sized box (much larger than the drive). the drive was in an anti-static bag and a custom made bubble-wrap enclosure. there were a couple of air filled packing bags but not enough to keep the drive from moving around...

this isn't a recent price drop, is it? I just bought 3 of these last week for the same price...

Are these extremely durable or something ? Just curious what makes them so great. I'm looking for a 6tb or higher to stream streaming all my media...hear nothing but bad reviews about higher TB drives.

It's the speed that makes these hard drive nice. Most drives are only 5400/5900 RPM, which is fine for data use. However, if you do a lot of reading and writing often, the higher speed 7200 RPM drives tend to be quite a bit quicker.

As far as the bad reviews for larger drives, it's likely due to the original drives that came out. I had one of Seagate's first SMR (Shingled Magnetic Recording) 5TB drive and I returned it because it was so slow and would freeze when writing large batches of data. Western Digital also released some 6TB Red (non-Pro) and they had a slew of reliability issues. So now that the technology has matured a bit more, I don't think you'll hear as many bad reviews minus the usual "DOA".

I just bought 2x of the Toshiba X300 4TB and they run fairly cool for the speed. I'd buy those again so I am I'm buying this from B&H since there is no tax and it's in stock compared to Amazon.

Thanks for the deal OP!

I bought the older model 5TB drive, PH3500U, for $145 from Amazon recently. Not opened yet, I could return it and get this instead - newer, $5 less.

I went with the older model because it has a 3 year warranty instead of 2, and is a little more proven while reportedly being basically the same drive.

But I'd like any input on the pick, as this is a newer model -any reason to get it instead?
