Thread Details

I am looking for a mini/small projector for my classroom (15-20) students for PowerPoint presentations, images and occasional video in a semi-dark room. Do the experts have any recommendations for a projector preferably under $150. I am open to refurbished also.
Thanks in advance.

I tried one of the cheap models on Amazon for Christmas. My 7-year old wants to do PowerPoint and Class Dojo like his teacher. The fan was loud and except in complete darkness it was unacceptable. Watch out for the cheap models. From there it's pretty easy to spend a lot of money.

If you're determined to meet that ~$150 price point, your best bet is probably a used Epson [amazon.com].

Keep in mind the cost of a new bulb may approach what you pay for the projector. If you can, I would spend a little more on a manufacturer refurbished Epson like this [amazon.com], which will provide some peace of mind with a good warranty and industry-leading customer support, not to mention an HDMI port.

Thanks. what about projectors at Amazon warehouse? Is there any way to figure out how much bulb life is left on these projectors? Looking at the options I think I will have to spend a bit more than I planned.

At the moment there aren't many projectors available at Amazon warehouse, but that wouldn't be a bad place to check in the future. Bulb life can be easily checked via the menu on most projectors but can be reset by the user, so I wouldn't count on that to tell how much use the projector/bulb has seen. Epson bulbs are among the least expensive of any manufacturer, and the built-in speakers are generally a cut above the rest and probably suitable for all but the noisiest classrooms.
