After much research on V1 versus V2 of this router I purchased on for my parents. I priced matched it at best buy and then they gave me a 25$ best buy gift card because that's what the current offer is.

If you choose to price match at bestbuy.com the router is NO longer available for shipping at Walmart so as long as your local Walmart has one for pick up you should be good for the price-match and should score a 25.00 Best buy gift card.

Looks like Amazon is matching:

Staples too!

Do not buy this router. I did. Internet drops, Xbox Live drops. Must roll back firmware to make it usable at all. Still, I must manually disconnect and reconnect WiFi to keep the internet working on my tablet. These are very common issues if you have lots of devices on your network.
Got one of these from Best Buy with price match and $25 GC on last FP deal. Completely dissatisfied with this router, worse range than my previous router, and there's an issue when used wired connections with 10/100 ports being capped at 25 Mbps
Bought this a month ago on amazon for the same price and will be returning it, the above comments are very true. The range is worse then the router you rent from AT&T and has to be reset consistently.

I bought one of these from Best Buy a couple of weeks ago for $200 (and they threw in a $25 GC). I haven't had any issues. I'm using an Nvidia Shield Portable to locally stream games from my pc over 5 GHz 802.11N and it's working flawlessly. Also, my Galaxy S5 has a strong connection with AC all around my house. Very happy with the purchase.

C9 is more popular and probably better.

Got the X4 R7500v2 a few weeks ago from Best Buy. Haven't had any problems with it. So far, the connections are rock solid. This is now used as my main router with R7000 as a repeater and an Asus ac68U as a VPN router.

Isn't the Asus RT-AC68U a better and more well-reviewed router?

Bought this a couple weeks ago from best buy with price match to walmart @ 149 and got the $25 gift card as well. Just installed it the other day and haven't had any issues so far. Had asus 56u and this router is a solid upgrade in terms of range. I can go across the street to my neighbors house and hold a solid connection. I have the V2 of this router so that may be something to consider.

I bought this from Amazon (they shipped me X4 R7500v2) for the same price couple of weeks back. I have no problems so far. I bought Archer USB3 adapter for my old N wifi laptop and now I can get 18 MB/ps speed over the WiFi and no dropped connection. (distance I have is about 40 feet) Very happy with the purchase. I guess V2 has resolved the issues and the infamy of the old version is the reason for the low price.

But AFAIK no DD-WRT or Tomoto firmware so far for this.
