If you dont have enough money, u might be looking for too much space.

Average rental rates in my area is like $600-800 studio, some listings are even in the $400-500 but not too areas. I know this because i was helping a co-worker find a place, he was in a bit of a jam. He went couch surfing for 6-8 months and just rented a nice room for $200/month. Life happens and you cant be too picky about things. $200 with everything included is a solid deal if your willing to live in someone's room. It better then a college dorm setup.

Damn that's cheap. That's way cheaper than I got my first apt for decades ago. The average rental rate in my area is like $2500 for a studio. A 1 bedroom is $3000+. A room in a house will at least run your $1000 + utilities. These are not nice places and definitely in the fixer upper category.

Heres the irony. The city will give an emergency housing allowance of $1800/month. Sounds like a lot but the reality is that you can't get an apt that cheap. You can only use it on a apt and not on a room in somebody's house. So their offer never gets taken up on since it doesn't rent a thing.

OP, check with your city. Many cities have programs to find shelter for people. Then why do we see so many homeless on the streets? Well, a lot of them turn it down. I see it at least once a week where I am. The cops come by with a social worker. They try their best to coax people into coming with them to a shelter. 9 times out of 10, people refuse.

I actually have been trying to find an APT in NJ. The cheapest I can find is 1300.. I think is a lot especially for one bedroom. Good luck OP.

Living in the #1 city for gun violence and where u have to watch out for gangbangers and police shooting at you is the trade off LMAO Welcome to Chicago.

Housing was a LOT cheaper then that when i lived in Detroit in the 2006 time frame.

Wonder if the OP will ever come back and post up their findings.
