**HELP** Projector and Projection Screen for basement theater

richarddluz 21 10 January 1, 2016 at 07:18 PM
Hi,

Looking to buy a projector and screen around 90x90? I have no idea what brand to get or typically how much something like this costs... I want good resolution as it will be used for movies and gaming. What is pricing on a decent setup? Where should I purchase it from? Can I stay under $1500 with everything included?

TIA!

Easily can stay under $1500. (Beginner Set-up, but best set-up under $2500) First step starts with getting a BenQ W1070 or newest version that is slightly (keyword slightly) better BenQ HT1075 ($750-$800). Next Step BenQ W1070 or BenQ HT1075 with a Silver Ticket Screen ($750-800 + $200-$250). This would equal a superb set-up, better than you would expect. Do your research, I have done it extensively.

After that, it is pretty much a Sony HW40ES ($2000 - $2500) + Screen (Potentially Silver Ticket Screen). But only if you can do it in a light controlled room (black walls, black ceiling, blacked out curtains) does this projector benefit over the BenQ.

Buy the first set-up first, upgrade to the second later. Or just go straight to the second set-up, either way that screen will work.

I have done my research, mark my words. These are your best options, trust me, I am saving you a ton of time researching and a lot of headaches. I have already gone through this.

Your welcome.

The real question is have you taken into account the price of bulbs?

I will usually REP you for worthwhile replies.

Slickdeals I can remember so far.
Magnavox 42" 1080p $546 OTD (crossing my fingers that it's not crappy) Amazon GCs: $20 so far, Hyundai test drive $50, Mazda $25, Amex 75K points (~$750GC), $300GC CC for Vonage signup, WD Mybook 250GB = $20AR, that's all I remember for now.

90x90? why would you want a square screen?

I would go with something like the below projector. Whatever you get, make sure it has lens-shift and not digital image controls. Get the projector from the below but their screens are a total ripoff.

Bulbs last so long anymore they are not that big a deal. Once this one goes - and it may never go - you will be looking to upgrade to a 4k projector anyway. Don't worry about bulbs.

FYI: I got an Antra framed screen (144") from Ebay. I was very happy with everything about it. Picture looks great on it and installation was a snap. Price can't be beat!
